About The Silver Needle -- a cross stitcher delight!
Welcome!Hi!

Welcome to The Silver Needle! Thanks for visiting our website! The following pics will show you so much about our shop, and I wanted a chance to add a few comments... so I'm glad you've clicked on this page!!!

Let me take a few minutes to tell you about our shop, and the gals who work here!
The Silver Needle opened its door for business March 1st, 1984. We had just one person -- Me! -- for 4 months. I had 660 square feet of cross-stitch, I could never get a minute to eat my lunch in peace... but Tulsa was in Cross-Stitch Heaven! Almost 20 years later... my newest employee reminded me that she'd been a customer on my very first day of business!
Since 1984, we have grown from 660 to 4,000 square feet of everything your Needlework-Loving heart could ever want! The pages of this website show you picture upon picture of all of us, the shop, and all the fun things that are our favorites! After 18 years in our original location... I made a huge step, signed a big, fat new lease... and for the third time, expanded the shop. This time... it's our dream! We have more space for you, displays, the inventory, classes and our mail order department! The view into the shop from the west door

We are just 2-1/2 miles off of Interstate 44... the old "Route 66" running through Tulsa. It will take you approx 5 - 10 minutes once you exit the expressway to get to our front door! While you're here... we can send the rest of the family to numerous sporting goods stores, car washes, "The Mall," several big movie theaters, and even the Fair Grounds for auto shows, etc. Tulsa is really a very large small town, and we're very centrally located! For you, we offer un-hassled browsing while they wait in the shop, or elsewhere!
Part of our Vera Bradley area
We've snapped pictures of the shop gals doing all our everyday things... sometimes we're paying attention to the camera, other times not. We just want to show you life around The Silver Needle every day! In the meantime, let me tell you about everything else we do around here!

Mr Frank N. Stein Designed by Brooke Nolan of Brooke's Books, September 2006 Secret Needle Night from The Silver Needle -- click to see a larger viewWe're home to Secret Needle Night every month! These are small, specialty thread kits -- our own designs -- that we kit each month, and mail to you! Always seasonal or holiday in theme, always on large count fabric with fun embellishments, we stay ahead of the holiday... so you have time to finish it!

January's kit is always Valentines, June's is always patriotic, October is always a Halloween design... you get the idea! We offer an automatic shipping program, so they turn up in your mailbox each month... which is always a fun treat! All the rest of the details are on our Secret Needle Night page!

One of our latest camp group shots out on the cabin porch
We host Camp Wannasew! It's our stitching weekend that we offer four times each year! Since 1985, we have been going to a privately owned campground... which now has a new log cabin that sleeps 52 ladies! Silver Needle fills the building with 44 crazy stitchers for a relaxing weekend of nothing but stitching, eating and chatting at Oklahoma's Sequoyah State Park.

Gals come from Alaska, Maine, Texas and Wisconsin... alone or with stitching friends... for a really good time, and a weekend of top-notch projects!

We offer classes in our new space... the class schedule is available on the Classes page. Make sure you check that out! Several good finishing classes as well as basic technique classes are being offered, too.

We offer a wonderful sitting area, complete with 15 different magnifying lamps, special stitching chairs, and a 10ft long stitching table! You can come, sit, relax, and stitch, SEE what you're doing... and you back will feel great the whole time, because of the chairs!!!
Our stitching area -- sometimes neat and sometimes not!
We're constantly bringing in new stitched models to put on display. It means our displays change all the time... because something is always new!

We are the largest Vera Bradley dealer in Oklahoma and Arkansas... and our pretty VB area will attest to that!

You'll find everything your heart desires browsing through all those beautiful colors and the different bag styles.
Our special new Vera Bradley balcony
We offer a monthly e-mail newsletter... absolutely FULL of the latest and greatest cross stitch news!

I always include a monthly special for "E-Mail Subscribers Only!" that includes a little something extra that the regular walk-ins don't get!

We include links to everything I talk about... and give you multiple pics of everything!
putting together Secret Needle Night Kits

As I'm sure you'll discover, we update our site several times each week! Visit the What's New page where Mary, our weary webmaster, posts her daily activities! You'll learn where she's updated things, changes pics, re-formatted the pages to load faster, and you'll be directed to the new happenings that day. She's great about e-mail updates, and our mail schedule, too. Bookmark it!
Meanwhile, the shop gals and I are here everyday answering your e-mails and phone calls! It's absolutely the most fun when you walk through our front door and announce that you are here from "Main Street USA," and you've been seeing us on the web for years! You're traveling through on your way to somewhere else... and your car KNEW it had to stop here! Sometimes we recognize your name -- other times, not -- but we're SO glad you've come all that way! It's like "Wow, someone is really reading all of this... and loves it as much as we do!" Harriet and Terri
We're highlighting a few pictures of everyday life around here... Mary comes with her camera... and sometimes we look really good, but sometimes not! So here's the tour!

A view from the front door
Walking into the shop from our double front doors, you'll see tables of cool projects and models, and two or three of us working by the sales counter.
We have a Pine Mountain Corner that is a favorite place to sit! Notice the computer on the wall? That's our website that's on all the time. So many times during the day, we're referring to something on there... and it helps the customers to remember what they wanted to ask about! We have a beautifully hand-painted table in this area that Kristine did for us. We use it to check in our UPS shipments -- because it's always exciting for you to see what's literally just come in! Here are Sherry and Kristine checking in the latest and greatest stuff!

Gale with one of our original customers!
We have a beautiful, spacious area to display and cut fabrics, now. Here are Mona and Karen, planning some projects for one of our Camp Wannasew weekends. Since we keep the threads down closer to the fabrics, that cutting table stays pretty busy! Here's Gale, one of our true fabric gurus, helping one of our customers who has been shopping here since our first day in business!!!
We now have a spacious back room! I have no idea what we did without it in our old space... and it never looks as nice as it really can, but here's a peek behind the scenes!

There I am... Mary has caught me walking into the back room from the shop. The shipping table is in the right foreground... and you can catch a glimpse of Angie working on someone's order.

A couple of sloppy boxes laying around... you can see our lunch area, where we store 4 canisters of various chocolate at all times! Usually, it's pretty busy back here... I guess everyone else is out in the shop!
Here's an early morning picture... nobody has had a chance to put their purses away yet! Deanna and Linda are getting ready to pick up something, Sue is off in the direction of the computer, and there I am, reading a note someone has left for me.

Anyway, you can get a good idea of our workspace, and see the beginnings of our shipping box storage area, and the inventory backstock!
This is looking down one of our inventory aisles! I had to show you this, because, today, it looked pretty good!!!

Everything is in plastic tubs and labeled -- we even alpahbetized it all by company and designer, so we could find everything! When we moved into this space, Terri and Harriet were instrumental in getting all this organized!

There is a huge corner full of Mill Hill beads, Treasures, Kits and tons of models. Actually, our picture doesn't even show all of it!

Behind that door is our customer restroom... stocked FULL of retired shop models that are for sale! Make sure it's a stop during your shop visit! You don't want to miss out on the pretty things in there, as well!

Here's Esther looking for special things a pattern calls for!

Lots of tiny kits, and precious embellishment packages on these walls!

Just some more pics of us around here! Nobody likes to look at the camera -- besides, they're all too busy shopping anyway! So sorry about all the back and no faces...

We hope this has given you a small glimpse into the busy, fun world of The Silver Needle, and invite you visit us in the shop just any time. If you're too far away, for now, please enjoy our web site often. Like the shop itself, it is truly a labor of love!
