ABC Lessons from Lizzie Kate - click to see moreABC Lessons from Lizzie*Kate
Lizzie Kate has outdone herself with this alphabet lesson about LIFE!!! Stuffed with 26 different bits of wisdom... all of it is simply spelled out... but charmingly organized... and full of soft color! Stitched on 32ct Lambswool linen, this finishes approx 9 x 13. Linda says that any number of neutral fabrics will work, and the threads provided in the kit will be sufficient for almost any that you choose. (10ct would make it a 13 x 20 design -- a really cool, generous pillow -- but you WILL need more thread for that option)

Anyway, the chart comes with smatterings of DMC floss and 6 complete skeins of Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses of soft brown, rose, lime, aqua, and buttery yellow. I love everything this says... it brings a smile to my mind!!!

Pere Noel - A Santa Scissor Keeper and Pin Holder from Dessins - click to see morePere Noel - A Santa Scissor Keeper and Pin Holder
from Dessins DHC
THIS is darling! An Olde-Worlde Santa, stitched over one thread on 32ct, he is two-sided, and has a top and bottom! Stitched with DMC flosses, the charts are clear, and instructions to assemble (presented in both French and English) include actual finishing photos. Santa is approx 3 x 5. He stores your scissors inside... they are tied to that red ribbon coming out of the top.

On Santa's back... is his sack full of 'toys' -- a darling set of Butterfly Couture hand-made clay-topped Christmas pins! The little 'basket' is a thimble sized piece that is stitched over two threads, cut out, stuffed and attached to the back. Pins stick in like a pin cushion.

This is precious! It is so unique, on the large side for an ornament... I think it should hang on your tree every year anyway! What a fantastic way to hide scissors, pins, and maybe even a few needles!!!!!! CHARMING!!! Presented in chart format with Christmas Pins.

Little Stitchies #139 Flowers Candle Mat Pattern from Bareroots -- click to see moreLittle Stitchies from Bareroots
This is a set of miniature wool candle mats... all created with our Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed wools!!! NO Cross Stitches involved... no sewing machines... these are tiny 10-inch round mini-mats -- doilies -- if you will. Designed to be Straight Stitched out of wool pieces... think about Punch Needle for these! Offered as the line drawings, they are PERFECT for punch, as well as the wool!

Little Stitchies 136 Chicks Candle Mat Pattern from Bareroots -- click to see moreNow, in most Primitive-Stitch wool projects, you Blanket Stitch everything together. Blanket gets confusing when you run out of thread and turn corners... but these aren't like that! These just use little TACK STITCHES to attach everything! Look at the little chicks -- you can really see what I mean on that one!

These are absolutely the most charming little things! You'll need a 1/4 cut of Weeks wool for your background piece... choose black, it's the 1/2-inch piece showing as the outside border. Then, we sell *millions* of Schnigglet pieces -- 8 x 8-ish in size -- and several of those are all you need for all the cut-outs! If you're going to punch instead... use a 3 strand needle... or even a 6 stand for the background!

Sweet Honey from Shepherd's Bush -- click to see lots moreAnnouncing: The Town Square!
from Forty Cross Stitch Designers

A darling set of 40 tiny shops, businesses and churches that together, make up an awesome Town Square and Village!!! A collaboration between different designers and vendors at our Summer 2006 Wholesale Needlework Market... everyone got together, and designed a particular building as part of the overall village.

Sandie's Sweet Shop I can't remember off the top of my head who did what... but I do remember that Shepherd's Bush had a Honey Shop, Mosey 'n Me did the bookstore, Crescent Colours had the saloon, Lizzie Kate did the Candy Shop, Sweetheart Tree had a Sweet-shop... there is a knitting shop, quilt shop, frame shop (East Side Moulding did that one!), a general store, haberdashery, bakery, a button shop -- done by Just Another Button Co!. The town hall, jail, fire station... Bent Creek did the fish shop... I could go on and on!

Anyway, offered as a set of 'freebie cross stitch charts' to those shops attending the show... Silver Needle is following Elegant Stitch's idea of loading all of these charts onto one CD for you... so you can have them all in one place, and print any or all... as many times as you wish! (We weren't sure our copier was up to all those thousands of copies anyhow... and nobody jumped up to baby-sit it while they ran!)
Cross Stitch Shop
Because of the time and effort involved in producing the set and duplicating the CDs, we have them available for $5.00 each... with a Silver Needle purchase. No limit to the number of CDs... good inexpensive stitcher surprises here! Ready to print in .jpg format... this is such a treat!

Several of the designers had special embellishments on their houses... we have most all of it, so when you get your Village, and decide which you're going to stitch... you can order any necessary fabrics, threads, buttons and charms from us! Sorry we don't have a composite pic of the whole Village... nobody had stitched one for the show... but enjoy several of the individual pics we do have!

Don't miss the special sterling that has been released for the Shepherd's Bush and Bent Creek sections!

My Stitching Album
from Jeannette Douglas
Jeannette's Stitching Album model arrived through our doors this week, for a quick shop 'visit!' I am so excited to tell you all about it!
Due to begin releasing in September... here is the scoop! Jeannette has designed an 8-part set of samplers -- each installment featuring a particular stitch, and it's variations. Loaded with pretty threads, and fun original verses, the set is designed to be displayed in a stitching notebook -- kind of like a 'coffee table book.'

My Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas My Stitching Album by Jeannette DouglasEach page has a pocket on its backside to store your coveted stitching tools -- palettes, scissors, thread winders, rulers, just whatever you have. Friends and family can open your album and be dazzled by all your lovely stitching inside. (Of course, framing is also an option with any of these... especially if you don't have a coffee table to display your book!!!) Chapter One -- Mosaic Muse -- releases September 2008, with each subsequent design shipping 2 months later, until we are finished in November of 2009. Collect all 8 samplers, or choose just a few favorites, there are lots details and choices with this! Click the pic for more!

A lovely little book... stitch the cover, and then each subsequent sampler to store inside. Jeannette's designs are stuffed full of hand-dyed threads and those featured stitches, so each little page is different from the last. What a neat way to show off your talents!

Page 1 Mosaic Muse from My Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas - click to see moreChapter One 'Mosaic Muse' will feature the Mosaic stitch, and a lovely thread packet full of pretty roses, grays and antiqued golds, all hand-dyed threads, that are one of Jeannette's trademarks. Your sampler will use only that special stitch -- but it's manipulated in lots of different ways! Stitched on Lakeside Linens 32ct Light Examplar Linen, you'll need a generous 2/3 yd chunk for the entire book, so everything matches throughout. (If you buy the linen separately, here and there, the dye lots will NOT match. Not necessarily a problem for some... just a heads-up!) Jeannette has commissioned a little wooden thread palette that is an optional treat to use with each pattern, it can store safely in the booklets pockets till the next pattern comes out.

Chapter Two will be Milanese Moment Nov 2008 -- a rainbow of dusky rose, butterscotch, denim and soft greens.
#3 Is Scotch Switch Jan 2009 -- stunning lavenders, bronzes and soft browns.
#4 Will be Florentine Fancy March 2009 -- luscious jewel tones of purple, aqua, moss greens, bold and beautiful!
#5 Is Crossed Caper May 2009 (sounds like a murder mystery!) It features reds and golds.
#6 is Hungarian Harmony July 2009 -- all greens and lavenders!
#7 is Rhodes Rhapsody September 2009 -- Moss greens, aqua blue, and deep cinnamons.
Finally we'll finish with #8 Herringbone Hour in November of 2009-- golds and lavenders.

The 'Getting Started Package' (*GSP*) will include the charts and threads for the cover of the album. (I believe you need to purchase the metal rings to hold it together, separately.) You'll receive finishing instructions to assemble the samplers into the organizer and some cool journal pages to use as stitching logs. Jeannette does mention that the backs of each sampler page feature a pocket so you can store the extra left-over threads, cool scissors, anything fun you want to keep there. (Maybe even pictures of your stitching friends or special stitching weekends!)

My Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas - click to see more Beautifully presented, you get pretty paper covers to insert inside the front and side panel of one of those clear-covered 1-inch binders from the office supply store. Next, can you see the pages with organizing tabs? Here are sheets and sheets of instructions for the actual stitched album -- colored photos of the assembly process, and all. A section for the front and back covers follows -- with its thread package, then another for the Mosaic Muze piece -- with its thread package, as well. (LOVELY hand-dyeds.) Because of the binder format, everything is so easy to follow, and so very organized!

Each Chapter will ship to you in chart format with the thread package, and will be approximately the same price ($40-45-ish). We will be able to get each chapter 'open stock' so if the auto-ship isn't a good option for you right now... availability will be good for a while.

We are in the middle of an auto-ship for this series... you can join that if you want... even beginning with THIS sampler... and picking up the previous parts as budget allows. Or, if you want it all, you can choose to start the Auto from the beginning, and we'll catch you up and then continue to send them as they come in! You have several options here... happy shopping!

Mighty Bright Floor Lamp The Mighty Bright Floor Lamp
Well... this is quite the little gem!!! Even before I tell you how great it is... you need to know its incredibly affordable price -- only $105.00!!!! A new floor-standing magnifying lamp, brought to us by the Mighty Bright people... this lamp features 12 teeny-weeny LED lights that surround a 5-inch glass (note glass -- vs plastic) 2X magnifying lens. The lens features a small 5X bi-focal area, for viewing extra-small stuff!!! It is powerful, very lightweight (I bet it isn't even 8 pounds), and so simple!

Designed to be plugged into the wall, 6-foot AC power cord included, ***OR run on 3 size D batteries*** it has a flexible gooseneck so you can direct the light anywhere you want it.
Mighty Bright Floor LampIt stands a mere 53 inches high, (27 inches is the stick, gooseneck is 18 inches, weighted base), so when you bend the neck, it really stands approx 36 inches high. It weighs almost nothing, so it BEGS to travel with you! It comes in a box that is only 16 x 16 x 5 inches -- so it ships to you as a regular-weight item!! (No oversize-box shipping charges!)

If you're enjoying our teeny personal Mighty Bright Lights -- the $5.99 ones, or the $30 clip-on lights, you'll understand the intensity of the LED lights this piece offers! They are astonishing! The LED bulbs never need replacing, either! Next to my incandescent desk lamp, the light from this looks 'purple-ish' to me. It is VERY bright directly in the area that my needlework fabric is... and since the lights are in the lens casing... there is no light glare that will show up on the TV screen across a dark room!

Lots of info here... remember the key info; Small and simple; lightweight, battery or wall powered, LED bulbs, 5-inch glass lens. It is smaller than the Daylight floor lamps... so don't expect a huge fixture. It is fabulous, and you'll LOVE it! Definitely a Definite!!!!! (you might want two... because when your family sees it, it's going to 'disappear!')

Micro-Mini-Mighty Brights! -- click to see moreMicro-Mini-Mighty Brights!
Well... these are *the coolest* LITTLE lights!!! Brought to us by the Mighty Bright people, these are tiny LED lights that measure only 1/2 an inch thick, an inch wide, and a whopping 1-3/4 inches long!

They weigh an ounce, they clip onto a book, papers, whatever, and have a tiny light that actually swivels to be directed down (like into a book, or to see the sidewalk) or out! Available in 5 different colors -- silver, purple, blue, apple green or rosy pink -- press that big button, and you'll get the brightest little light -- it's absolutely unbelievable!

One belongs in your stitching bag, another in your purse, another in the car for maps, another beside your bed to read with, or just use as a tiny night light, another to clip to the phone book... are you getting the picture??? They are cute and very powerful little things! The best part, is that they are only $5.99 each! AND... since they are so fun and functional... we're doing a Baker's Dozen Deal on them!!! (That means that when you buy 12 of these... you'll get a 13th FREE!!! It saves the stress of color selection, and you'll have enough to share with everyone else!)
WAY TOO CUTE, NEAT, AND COOL!

The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest from Primitive Traditions - click to see moreThe Florentine Borders Sewing Chest
from Primitive Traditions
Once again, Cathy Campbell of Primitive Traditions has out-done herself with a stunning sewing chest design! Originally offered as a teaching piece, I've been waiting 3 years for her to release this!!!! (every market... my plea persisted...!) Your hand-painted 9 x 6 x 6 faux-finished chest features little ball feet and a lift-off lid. The Florentine Borders cover the entire outside top (solid stitching), and are worked in Crosses and Flame Stitch.
The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest from Primitive Traditions - click to see more
Next, the interior of the top features the Needles and Pins verse with little sampler beside the words. A pin cushion and scissor pocket! Inside the chest, all the sides are decorated with more Flame and flower borders. Bottom piece features a sampler motif with room for your initials. Cathy gives you pages and pages of extra alphabets and motifs in here, in case you want something else in the bottom of your exquisite little chest.

The entire thing is stitched on 36ct Lakeside Linens Light Examplar Linen (piece placement guide is included) in 11 different shades of Needlepoint silks of yellow, blue, green taupe and brown. (If those colors aren't your favorite, you can change them... but wait till you get the chart to study the stitch patterns.) You will need to enlarge the graphs to see all the tightly packed symbols that give this piece so much movement, pattern and awesome impact!!!

Sarah Elliott, The Sewing Chest of a Nantucket Sister Sailor
from Primitive Traditions
Sarah Elliott, The Sewing Chest of a Nantucket Sister Sailor from Primitive Traditions - click for more
A STUNNING piece... a sewing chest inspired by the diaries of women who went whaling with their husbands in the early 1800's. Called 'Sailing Sisters,' they endured years at sea away from their families accompanying their husbands on the long, arduous voyages of whale hunting around Cape Horn, into the South Pacific, around the Hawaiian Islands, up to Alaska and on to China! Although Sarah Elliott is a fictional lady... her chest is steeped in rich history of the day.

Offered charts, Sarah's sewing chest consists of an exquisite harbor scene on the chest top -- you can see the checkerboard water and the tall ship. (Lovely blues, teals, bricks, greys and whitewashed sands...) It speaks of the sailor leaving his home, remembering family 'with a tear.' Next, there is a lining to the interior top of the chest -- 'Forget Me Not.' Each of the four interior sides features stitching -- the two longer sides feature pockets with stitched fronts that hold precious locks of hair or needlework tools. (I think one of our pics shows the pockets very well.) There are coordinating needle pages, a Biscornu pin cushion -- inspired by Sarah's Quaker upbringing -- a scissor fob and case -- all decorated with mermaids and seaside motifs to match the box top.

Looking down at the top of the box All the stitched pieces are assembled either into the accessories or actual lining and topping pieces for the handpainted 9 x 6 x 5-1/2 matte black box. Decorated with charming metal loop-rings on the sides, and a faux lock on the front, the top piece comes off. So you can 'fit' the interior of the box, and line both the top and underside of the lid. (There is even a piece of felt included to glue onto the underside of the box!) Notice the engraved Olde Colonial Brass Ruler -- 6 inches -- included, as well as the EXQUISITE scrimshaw piece -- A Busk Bookmark -- that is decorated with a scallop shell, ropes, tall ships, the sun, a mermaid, sea monsters, Nantucket baskets and a mariner's star. There is so much detail in here... that even on the scissor pocket piece, the three sailors all have different haircuts!!! (French Knots and little Straight Stitches!!!)

The Sarah Elliott scissor pocket - click to see moreThere are finishing instructions throughout... I love the page telling the story of the piece... you get the placement guide for all the stitched pieces on the main linen cut, and since everything is stitched in DMC, Crescent Colours and Sampler Threads... your stash is waiting with the threads!!! Lots of chart enlargements, great finishing steps and hints... we are even treated to a bibliography of resource and historical reading about whaling!!!

Package includes the charts and finishing instructions, the hand-painted chest, the scrimshaw piece (the size of a tongue depressor!), the engraved brass ruler, a sterling whale charm, button (an antique circa 1850 bone button!) and felt for the trunk bottom. Available separately is the 1/2 yard cut of Lakeside Linens 36ct Mourning Dove Linen, and any flosses you don't already own.

This piece is simply stunning! I have a hard time describing its charm! The colors are what you'd expect from a seaside, distressed and weathered scenario... and together with the antiqued loops on either side of the trunk... it presents itself as a miniature, historic picture -- preserved through your needlework -- a glimpse into the past -- a glimpse into the life of another needlewoman. (Although the linen is listed as a reservation... we expect most of our shipments to arrive within these first 3 weeks of pattern release.)

May we present a most charming set of Santa's Reindeer??? By Mirabilia's Nora Corbett, this is an exquisite set of 8 charts -- each of one of Santa's devoted reindeer -- dressed and ready for Christmas Eve's Special Deliveries!!! 'On Dasher, On Dancer, On Prancer and Vixen... On Comet, On Cupid, On Donner and Blitzen...' Comet, Prancer finish the set!

Nora has designed this lovely set of reindeer, that each share the same stitch count, so therefore, the same finished size of approx 5 x 6-1/4 on 32ct. Beautiful DMC colors, each features some Rainbow Gallery Wisper thread -- for deer tails, bits of metallic, and Mill Hill glass beads and treasure embellishments for some extra sparkle! Choose Twilight Blue as your fabric... we have it in several counts.

The little reindeer are colorful and charming... very festive! In my minds eye, I see Dasher and Donner as a set, Dancer and Blitzen as a pair -- because of their trees, and Vixen and Cupid together. Of course, you can choose any that you want, and certainly all 8! They are elegant... wouldn't they be pretty pillows on your chairs this year? Offered as charts with embellishments (intact packages of the beads, treasures and whole spools of the metallics) offered separately. Just put your cursor over each image to see its name.

Needle-Safe -- click to see a moreNeedle-Safe
These have been around 'since the beginning of time!' 2-1/4 x 4-1/2 x 5/8 an inch in size... they are pretty plain looking, but SUPER handy! Opening it up, you'll find both sides are lined with magnets to hold needles. I have my scissors with a little fob on them in there... needles, threaders, a little highlighter sheet, a small crystal nail file...you can get a lot of stuff on one of these! Now, the hinge is plastic. The minute you drop this for the first time, it will break.

There isn't a shopowner in sight at a class at Market that isn't carrying around one of these that broke in their shop! We all have 'em... complete with rubber band around them... 'cause they're still good -- even with a broken hinge! Kind of like a 'rite of passage!' I whip mine out of my stitching bag going thru the metal detectors as the airport, and it ALWAYS goes thru with no problems! Definitely an 'Old Faithful!'

from Olde Colonial Designs

This is an endearing set of needlework 'things' that will be stunning in your collection of tiny stitchery cases and what-nots! The needlebook sports smaller, matching versions of the main design. The set contains this main stitching basket -- complete with a tiny needlebook, and a matching Snip Basket.

Click for more Needlework Garden is the main design, and is featured as a lining in the bottom of the 6 x 8 x 2-1/2 woven Nantucket basket, due to be available at the end of January, 2006. Oh my Gosh... this is the cutest little acorn pillow... and it even has a matching square-tasseled pillow companion! Nuts Stitch Here is one of Trail Creek Farm's new Plumper Pillows - you get the already made and stuffed little pillow with the four already-covered fabric buttons, the ribbon hanger, luscious hand-dyed Colorscapes Linen, fabric to line the back of your stitching, acorn charm, and chart for this appropriate design. All you add is an hour or two of stitching and the schnibblets of overyded floss. After you stitch, just button it onto the finished pillow, and your DONE!!! The acorn pillow measures approx 6 x 7 x 3, and features a hanger that's large enough to fit around a doorknob. Wonderful browns and greens... this is sooo fun!

Sheep Tape Measure
Sheep Tape Measure -- click to see more!Oh my gosh, this is THE cutest little guy!!! A little furry acrylic 'woolen' lamb is the secret hiding place for a very handy tape measure!!! Pull on his little tail... and a 60-inch/150cm tape measure comes out!!! Then, squeeze his belly a bit... and away it goes! Measuring approx 3 x 3, and about an inch thick, our little lambs have ultra-suede feet, ears and face, are just the thing for a stitching bag!!! What a fun little gift... he's just so cute!

Crystal Nail Files
from DOVO

A 'bonus' from my German scissor manufacturer, DOVO, this is a 3-1/4 inch long glass nail file, that is absolutely wonderful to use! Because it's crystal, the file side will never dull. The grind is very fine... but really does a nice job. Just a perfect size for your purse or stitching bag, or even needlecase... these are functional and elegant! (My manicurist is from Germany, and she buys these from me each year at Christmas to give to the rest of her favorite clients! How's that for a testimonial?)

from Olde Colonial Designs

Quite the functional stitcher's gadget, this is an endearing stitching gadget -- a tape measure that is covered entirely in cross stitch!!! Your complete kit includes the retractable tape measure, linen, flosses, felt lining fabric, antiqued silver scissor charm, and wooden pull bead to stitch and assemble the most charming accessory your stitching tote has seen in some time! The picture shows it in my hand, so you can see the finished size... I just love it! The colors are soft taupes, raspberry, and moss green, it's stitched on 32ct creme linen... and truthfully, may be a challenge for some to finish. It's assembled entirely by hand... the instructions walk you through which pieces to assemble to which... and include actual sized templates for the felt interfacings. The tiny fob attached to the end of the measure is less than 1/2 x 1 inch... it's just enchanting! Available as the complete kit.

And They Sinned
by Examplar Dames Design Co

This is the story of Adam and Eve, stitched entirely in Sampler Threads of delicious, soft colors. While it looks normal, it is NOT! The stitch count of this is *only* 809 x 169! That's *only* 12 x 58 inches on 28ct!!! Signed by the designers on my birthday this year.. this is a lovely story about the Garden of Eden, and features hundreds of motifs, borders, and lots of alphabets and verses.

The chart comes to you on 4 11x17 pages, and although it's done entirely in regular cross stitches... I challenge you to find a more endearing piece! It's been done for competitions already, and stitched over one thread on 40ct silk gauze. Esther remarked today that it would fit perfectly on her scroll frame... and we laughed about how she could carry it around 'forever' in her tote bag! This is truly one of the most remarkable needlework pieces I have ever seen... I took it home, and will probably start it!

(A special note here... When I opened my teeny needlework shoppe in 1984, I knew there would be, and looked forward to, the days I would be able to sit behind my little sales counter and stitch for a few hours between customers. Well, since that quiet stitching time never came to be... and my evening stitching time has taken second place to book-keeping... I'm REALLY picky! I REALLY like this one... and right now, I intend to finish it!!! Give me 5 years!)

Available as a chart... please don't pass this up... it's literally bigger than you!

This is handy gadget, that helps you anchor short threads. Simply insert the long wire through the back of stitches, catch the too-short ends and pull them through! Great as a small needle threader, too! The star on the end is opalescent plastic, and has a tiny loop so you can attach it to something for safe keeping.
The Bench
Footstool, The Bench from K's Creations -- click for a larger view
From K's Creations, this is a cool, collapsible foot stool that's just the right size for us stitchers! Raising your feet a little off the floor can take so much stress off your lower back... you'll be amazed! Easy to fold up and tuck into your tote bag, this smoothly finished oak stool measures just 5 1/2 x 11, and 5" high. The legs fold up under it, and a fancy bolt fastens them in place, making a bundle that is only 3" thick! It takes 2 seconds to unfold... and is just the right size to tuck under your feet while you're stitching! Perfect for stitching weekends, traveling, whatever!
Clover Thread Cutter -- click to see a better viewDo You Have A Clover Yet?
This is the coolest little gadget by the Clover Company! Availability is scarce these days for these... it's an antiqued gold thread cutter that feels heavy for it's teeny size! Look closely, there is a recessed, protected razor blade -- circular -- inside, and lots of slits around the edges to insert your thread and cut! No scissors!!!!! It's decorated with flowers on both sides and there is even a loop at the top to attach to a chain or to tie onto something. Just perfect for travelling! Every stitcher's Christmas stocking needs one, as well as every stitching bag in America!!!

Baby Q-SnapQ-SNAPS
Cool little gadgets, Q-Snaps are INDISPENSIBLE! They are a very lightweight frame, designed to hold your needlework fabric tight, and straight on the grain...for neater and easier stitching. There are several sizes available... and each set in interchangeable with the others... but the newest is this teeny little one, which is pictured. Sometimes you just need a LITTLE something!

Hard to decide on the best combination of sizes!!! Available are:

These have been customer favorites for years! 1 1/2" Silver Grippers, these are wonderful little tweezers. They are perfect for grabbing errant threads on your work, and picking out the cut threads in your Hardanger Embroidery work. The tips are super sharp, and the sides are strong heavy gauge stainless.
