WE have a nice collection of wonderful designs by Carriage House... everything is full of deep browns, cinnamons, rusts, pretty amber-golds, dusty moss and bold forest greens.
Of special note, however are the Hawk Hollow Run pieces. A Village and Town of houses and businesses... these can be broken down into each of their individual squares, or stitched as the entire piece. Stunning!

Autumn at Hawk Run HollowCarriage House's 5th set of scenes all around the village of Hawk Run Hollow is here! Celebrating Autumn, it covers the harvest season, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Joining Houses, Village, Shores and Christmas... Kathy says this is her last HRH set. We stood together in her booth at Market... all 5 of them were there on display, just stunning!
Just like all the rest, this piece features 12 squares of designs, that can be stitched individually or together. Every single panel
is neat... it's kind of fun to look at the set of patterns and TRY top choose your favorites! Autumn is stitched in a different configuration than the rest, so linen has been ordered. Charted for silks or DMC floss... overall finished size is approx 9 x 32 on 36ct, or 13 x 44 on 28ct! Offered as the chart, all other HRH charts are still available!

Christmas at Hawk Run HollowCarriage House has released her next Hawk Run Hollow piece, joining Village, Houses and Shores of HRH! A stunning 12-part piece... just like the other three... each section can stand alone and is a lovely piece all by itself! EVERY square in this design is neat... lots of bold color and subject... the houses, trees, carolers, skating pond, singing cardinals and church scene are all endearing! LOTS of stitching in this, it finishes approx 17 x 23 on 32ct! Charted for DMC flosses or Needlepoint Silks, the piece uses 119 colors!!! (So to save yourself approx $360... choose the floss!) I'm trying to choose my favorite section, and i *think* it's the skating pond... but I like those singing birds... ! Offered as a chart... linen and threads separately.
|
A Mind Independent and FreeThis is an *AWESOME* piece... very long and narrow, very eye-catching -- just to walk past -- but then you read the verse... and you know you have to have it! 'No glory I covet, no riches I want, Ambition and Beauty are nothing to me. The one thing I beg of good heaven to grant Is a mind independent and free.' Stitched in a paillette of only 5 colors -- DMC or silk -- this finishes approx 6 x 34 on 32ct!!! Such a cool shape... such a powerful verse, it's quite an easy-stitch! The full width of the chart fits on one page, all regular crosses... and lots of lettering... which goes fast! Think about adding some hand-dyed if you want. Offered as the chart.

Silver Needle hosted a wonderful Trunk Show of Carriage House's stitched pieces -- 59 of them -- for the month of July! (This show also included designs from Hands to Work... we'll have those up in another day or two.) Now, during September, we have another one! We've carried some of these designs for years, but never had the opportunity to hold the models in our hands, and really LOOK at them! Wow... what a talented lady Kathy Barrick is!
I can't begin to describe 59 different designs... and I don't think we even photographed all of them... but here's a tempting smattering of our show!!! Exquisite pieces, deep, primitive colors, cross stitch samplers and cool punch needle.

The Shores of Hawk Run HollowA third companion to the Village and Houses of Hawk Run Hollow, this is another exquisite piece by Kathy Barrick. 12 Blocks of nautical flavor... you can stitch them all together, or choose a block or two that is a favorite. Every block is a little work of art by itself! Mermaids, fish, anchors, tall ships, and that awesome seaside house, there is always something new to discover when you look at this piece! Breathtaking stitched on any fabric you choose, this finishes approx 15 x 20-1/2 on 40ct or 14 x 18-1/2 on 36ct Vintage Autumn Gold by Lakeside Linens. Stitched in either DMC floss or Needlepoint Inc silks, it uses 32 colors -- so many lovely shades of blues and teals, crisp whites, weathered reds and grays... I absolutely LOVE it! Offered as a chart, we have two different Lakeside linen counts available... and many other fabric options, as well, along with the silks (should arrive in a week or so) or flosses!
|
Baking & Roasting & Frying & BoilingFrom morning to evening its nought but toiling at baking and roasting and frying and boiling.
This is a darling way to present an antique sampler!!! You can stitch the
piece and frame it as a band sampler the traditional way, or assemble the
apron following the included finishing instructions... dress a doll or
frame the actual little apron! Offered as a chart, the bottom panel of the
apron finishes approx 6 x 7 on 32ct. Charted for DMC flosses... overdyeds
would be awesome in this... and fabric options are endless!
|
A Friendship SamplerWow... this is such a unique piece that is a tribute to your group of friends or family!!! This is a chart that offers so much versatility, that no two of this design will be stitched alike!!! Finishing approx 17 x 17 on 28ct... pick the fabric of your choice... and work with the Crescent Colours Belle Soie Silks to honor all your friends, family members, or members of your guild or group! Charter members, siblings, cousins, *lottery winners* -- PICK YOUR GROUP and celebrate it in stitches!!! Make it larger or smaller... depending on the group... everyone is celebrated with a different little heart, and their name. What a cool time capsule... what a neat tribute to a community of lives... I'd love to meet Chickie Cobb!!!

The Village of Hawk Run Hollow
The sequel to Carriage House's Houses of Hawk Run Hollow... this is a MUST HAVE! "Over the river on a hill lieth a village sweet and still. All around it the forest and the trees shiver and whisper in the breeze. Over it sailing shadows go of soaring hawk and screaming crow. And mountain grasses low and sweet grow in the middle of every street." A set of 8 houses, there is a school, church, town hall, blacksmith, gristmill, the inn, parks, and even the graveyard!!! Such a neat, colonial/antique flavor, this is just stunning. Stitch count for this incredible piece is a whopping 278 x 371, which means that on 32ct, this will finish approx 17 x 23! You can stitch the entire village, or just choose a few of your favorites and arrange them however you want... lots of neat choices here. The chart includes one huge master sheet of all for placement, with each individual block on a single, separate sheet of paper, so you can carry just the chart you're working on, and leave the rest safely tucked away till you need them. Containing 56 luscious colors of Needlepoint Silks, this is converted to DMC floss as well, and will require a total of 62 skeins of thread. Bricks and bronzes, greens of every shade, golden mustards and cinnamon browns, weathered blues, the list just goes on and on! So... check into your DMC stash, or treat yourself to the silks!!! (We have them all ready for you!) Note: The 40ct linen specified in this piece will most likely be unavailable for several months. Study the chart a bit to decide if there is another you'd like to use.

The Houses of Hawk Run Hollow This is a commanding design that features 12 smaller design panels that can be worked individually or together, in any number of shapes and formats. Each block measures approx 5 inches square on 36ct linen, making this entire piece a whopping 20-1/2 x 15- 1/2 on 36ct linen, that is almost all solid stitching. Luscious colors of russets, greens, buttermilks, teals, bricks, and cinnamons, this is charted for DMC or Silk. (Silk set contains 59 skeins!)
I love houses... so think this is charming. However, in reading the very traditional sampler-themed words... I find that I personally would change them to read something much more lighthearted, like 'the road to a friend's house is never long!!!' The piece deals with 'Remembering Me' but then mentions rotting bones, etc, etc....! Anyway, it is truly a lovely piece... full of cool houses and other sampler motifs, even though it is on the high end price-wise!
|
Hearts & Flowers
I LOVE this... 'When in love I do commence, may it be with a man of
sense.' Pinks and greens.
Finishes approx 5 x 8 on 32ct.
|
As Life Wears Away
OK... we're wishing for wiser days as we get older! The Bargello and colors in this are lovely!
|
Matters Choice
A beautiful, miniature study in sampler motifs... has a Quaker feel to
it. One model is done in Navy Blue... choose your favorite color -- especially an overdyed! Finishes 11 x 11 on 28ct.
|
 Tulip Basket
A cool punch needle design, shown mounted onto a pillow. Calls for 55 skeins of Weeks overdyed! (33 of them are for the Onyx background!!!) Approx 6-1/2 x 11.
|
 Acorns & Threads
Exquisite over one... do just half... it's charted both ways. Lovely detailed acorns and Double Running Stitches. Entire thing is 6 x 9 on 32ct.
|
 My Home Town
Quite a show-stopper... this finishes approx 12 x 23-1/2 on 32ct! Tons of color and small detail, several of the shop gals have grabbed this pattern!!! Charming details!
|
 Pear Orchard Farm
I love these super-primitive samplers -- lots of golds, raisins and soft greens, this finishes approx 8 x 13 on 32ct. Lots of Satin Stitch in the grass...
|
 Big Fish
Oh Gosh -- a Shop Favorite! Verse reads: 'If this work you find a shame, then the needle is to blame.' Perfect to hang on the wall or perch on a shelf that's full of your needlework!!!
|
 Purity of Heart
Very traditional, fantastic colors and eye-appeal, verse reads; 'from the purity of heart, pleasure springs.' Finishes approx 10-1/2 x 11 on 32ct. I love the golds and greens.. reminds me of the Pear Orchard Farm piece.
|
 A Quaker Study
EXQUISITE in one color of overdyed! Model is done with DMC 433 and 435... but choose a great overdyed color, and you're set! Great balance and simplicity. Approx 10 x 19 on 28ct.
|
 Halfpenny Pasture
Wow... a Tree-of-Plenty!!! Reminiscent of Bargello, this is all worked in regular cross stitches... but full of that design element that 'moves' like Bargello! Very pastoral in feel, it's jammed with brilliant, rich color!
|
The Stockings!
We have 7! (Six are cross stitched, and the Mermaid -- a punch needle
piece -- shown above -- is #7!) All are offered as charts, all finish something like 11 x 28 on 32ct. They are 'so wide' because of the toe area. Actually very long, lanky and SKINNY in feel, these are charming! Absolutely the coolest things for a thin wall area, the chart for the PA-German stocking shows it hanging from the back of a ladder-back kitchen chair! How cool is that? Shown in order from the top:
Noah -- The man, himself, his ark, and a whole company of different animals!
Sampler Stocking -- Very pretty in reds and greens... a little on the yellow-y end for me... but I can see color changes VERY easily for this one! Really good balance!
Quaker Stocking -- All the pretty, traditional Quaker-type motifs -- usually stitched in dusty blues -- this offers two colorways, one for blues, one for browns!
Primitive Stocking -- This one's kind of plain... but if you want a grouping of stockings, you might want this one in there, as kind of a 'breather' from all the detailed ones.
Pennsylvania-German Stocking -- We love the cream, buttermilk golds and browns stitched on the dusty blue linen... such a different look, it's really refreshing and gentle.
Truth & Virtue Stocking -- Another neat sampler design... lots of red in this... so you may need to change a few colors. The leaf motifs everywhere give this such a rhythm... such organization!

|
Charity, Honor, Hope, Faith & Love 5 Teeny-weeny little virtue designs each is 34 x 46 stitches... so over one... can be really petite! Each is offered in a single card/chart format, and is coded for DMC, Crescent Colours or Weeks overdyeds. These are charming, and have caught everyone's eye... I think because they are so tiny and traditional in feel!
|
 Faith, Hope and Honor
Intense color in this one... I think I'd have to tone down the red dress a bit, but I love the stylized trees in the background and the urns at the bottom!
|
 Berries & Pins
Sweet little ornaments, sachet bags or pin cushions... check out that purchased beaded-ball trim! What a fun finishing presentation! 3 x 4 on 36ct.
|
 Honeycomb & Flower Garden
Wow... this model is eye-catching! Pic is stitched on black in cinnamons and golds. Then they've also shown you the basket itself, stitched in taupes on light-colored linen on the back of the chart. I thought it was a
completely different design at first!!!!! Lovely!
|
 Glad Tidings
Bright Pumpkins, Marigolds, and browns; the triangles in the border are all satin stitched. 9-1/2 x 11 on 28ct.
|
Fall's Gifts Here's a collection of festive holiday pumpkins... I think that must be Hattie Jane Cayhill and her family in the last one??? The acorn and squirrel motifs in the pumpkins are pretty cute, and that silly peacock on top of Hattie's pumpkin is just over-the-top! This is stitched on black linen and is coded for regular DMC flosses or silks. Finishing approx 16-1/2 x 7 on 28ct... its quite the primitive feel!
|
Black Willow Farm The traditional farmyard barn, complete with primitive stack of horse, cow
and sheep... this finishes approx 5 x 8 on 28ct linen. Charted with choice
of silks for flosses... it's just kind of cute!
|
Oliver and FriendNot a new pattern, just one I always come back to when I see the stitched piece... I LOVE the color in this! Stitched on 28ct, it finishes approx 5 x 9, and is stitched in rich Mahogany, Hazelnut, Olives, Copper, and Rosewood DMC's! I like the acorns, really like the background, and love the pumpkins and rooster! Silly! Offered as a leaflet!
