Christmas and Winter Cross Stitch Patterns from The Silver Needle, Fine Needlework Materials, Tulsa

There are so many wonderful designs available that celebrate every season and occasion under the sun... so we thought it'd be fun to collect a few of them, and organize them for you on a set of Holiday/Seasonal Pages. I'm a "seasons nut..." so we'll be adding to these all the time! We have so many other projects and ideas in the shop, and elsewhere on the site, but this is a fun way to show you just a few ..... ENJOY!

Here's a quick ornament design by Shepherd's Bush that matches quite a few of their other designs these past few months. Stitched on 28ct Newport Linen (it already has those white background stripes woven right into the fabric)... this little thing finishes only 3 x 3.

You can tell that the stitching is fast, and if you don't have the required overdyed Crescent Colours already in your stash, something else close in color might do nicely. It's embellished with a special clay Santa face button, made only for this design. Finish into a 8 x 8-ish pillow, like the pic, or smaller, into an ornament! Offered as the single chart with button separately.

Big nose, big beard, little tree! Might be cute for the 'Scrooge' of the family!!!

Samsarah has two fun, new Christmas stocking designs that you probably won't finish in time for the Big Day this year... but next Christmas is only 13 months away!!! Big, Bold and Simple designs, each finishes approx 11 x 15-1/2 on 18ct Natural Linen. All of the color you are seeing on these is achieved by the Caron Collection Watercolors overdyed #5 Perle cottons used! SUPER EASY solid stitching, the hand-dying in the threads does all the color-work!!!

Offered as the leaflets, we have the threads bundled together for you... and the bells or peppermint buttons featured on each. If you want clay button letters for your names... please SPELL that name for us, so we can order the correct letters!

I've found French charts -- annual Christmas designs -- that I bought just to offer to you for a few weeks! Lovely color, shading, and shapes... they are offered in color chart format, with DMC color references. That's all I can read!! (the rest is in French!)

It measures 120 x 120 stitches... and I think they are full of quiet, understated elegance!

This is a cute design by Cherrywood Studio -- just simple cross stitches in overdyeds on 28ct Millenium Blue Cashel Linen, 'A blizzard made our snowman very wild!'

Finishing approx 5-1/2 x 8, the little corner guy is also charted with his hat both flying away, and coming back to him again... so you have a couple of matching ornament options. There are JABCO clay snowflake buttons scattered about... or you could use the neat metal Mill Hill snowflakes... tell us how many you need! Crisp, cheerful and cute, this is offered as a chart, I think the finishing is darling!

Homespun Elegance has two new ornament designs the season that are *really cute!* Both can be stitched over one thread or two -- pics of both ways are shown on the chart cover... and I don't know which one I like better! (OK... one over one always wins out!)

Offered as charts, each is stitched in flosses from your stash, and each chart includes a tiny brass embellishment, just for fun. With a stitch count of 39 x 60... the 1/1 pieces could be 1-1/4 x 2 on 32ct!!! How cute is that???

OK... we're still being treated to Homespun Elegance's Annual Gigantic Santa... this is the 22nd in the set! Offered as the chart with quite a full little packet of embellishments, he is stitched on 7ct Sand Klostern in size 3 Perle Cottons, and lots of Rainbow Gallery Wisper thread.

Real cute, he finishes approx 13 x 14 in size! HUGE!!! You'll use lots of floss to stitch his deep red coat, and furry beard... the model is finished into a weighted stand-up... VERY NEAT! Offered as the leaflet with embellishments.

Stitch a lovely bell pull for an empty, skinny wall, or a set of ornaments to scatter on your tree. Victoria Sampler has taken the words from 12 Days of Christmas and tucked them all into a 3 x 28 inch sampler -- loaded with pretty stitches and color! I love hanging this sort of thing in that thin little wall space between two doorways, or beside a window, or in a funny little wall niche... it's a surprise for anyone who walks by!

12 Days is stitched on 28ct Natural Linen in deep, rich shades of silks (lots of hand-dyeds), cottons, metallics, and is embellished with beads, pearls and little gold spangles. Charted for both the long sampler and each ornament individually, along with all the fun stitch diagrams -- 4 pages worth! -- there are finishing instructions for everything as well.

These kind of designs always seem to stitch so quickly, because the rows are short (only 3 inches wide!) and with every bit of a new stitch or little figurine... your sampler grows and grows! Offered as the leaflet, with thread accessory pack and linen offered separately.

Mill Hill has released a set of 4 Olde Worlde Santas designed by artist Jim Shore. All have a 'quilt flavor' to them, all share a matching background, color scheme, and general shape, but each features a different Santa. Crisp bright reds and yellows, all are worked on an icy blue colored 14ct perforated paper in DMC flosses and glistening glass beads.

Of course, you can always stitch them on linen instead... either way, they finish a generous 5 x 5. Very vibrant, each is offered as the complete kit of chart, paper, flosses, beads, needle and button embellishment. We have a set of coordinating snowmen, too!

*Must Be Santa* is their 5th Christmas Kit -- NOT TO BE CONFUSED with their small, annual Santa Card (we expect #25, still, this year!) Must Be Santa shows Santa in the upstairs window... above the decorated tree downstairs in the living room... and one of his reindeer up on the roof! The same pretty deep brick reds and greens... (as with so many of the PS designs, I see the Santa-in-the-window as a small take-out design stitched over one!)

This is the 5th year PS has released their Santa kits... chart, linen and Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses... and you just simply *need* to stitch it! This kit contains the chart, 28ct Natural Linen, all the flosses and needle. He finishes approx 5 x 8... same size as his previous 4 annual kits! All of the previous cards and kits are pictured and dated on our PS pages... visit them to make sure your stash is complete!!! If you don't see a particular year's design... it is OUT OF PRINT!

Raise the Roof has designed a fun new Christmas Village piece for Crescent Colours, and we now have all four parts!!! 'The streets are filled with visions grand -- a lovely night in Christmasland!'

Little snow-capped houses, the tree farm, and Christmas morning church... it's a row scene full of winter charm! Crescent is offering it in four parts, each with the chart, Belle Soie hand-dyed silks and a set of Just Another Button Company clay buttons. Choose any 32ct linen, and this will finish approx 17 x 4.

Something about this 3 x 8 design brings RETRO to mind! Nostaglic colors, soft curvy lines, this is offered as a chart with a fire crystal bead to stitch into the lantern, and a tiny 3-dimensional wreath charm to attach to the sleigh.

Santa is on his way... so it must be time for bed!!!! (but maybe stay up a bit to stitch!!!) Calls for DMC flosses.

Carriage House has released her next Hawk Run Hollow piece, joining Village, Houses and Shores of HRH! A stunning 12-part piece... just like the other three... each section can stand alone and is a lovely piece all by itself! EVERY square in this design is neat... lots of bold color and subject... the houses, trees, carolers, skating pond, singing cardinals and church scene are all endearing! LOTS of stitching in this, it finishes approx 17 x 23 on 32ct!

Charted for DMC flosses or Needlepoint Silks, the piece uses 119 colors!!! (So to save yourself approx $360... choose the floss!) I'm trying to choose my favorite section, and i *think* it's the skating pond... but I like those singing birds... ! Offered as a chart... linen and threads separately.

Lizzie Kate has a new Christmas-themed alphabet sampler... one that announces all the fun things about Christmas... via mini motifs. Just like her Words for Life piece, this is a medley of memories, all squished into a 7-1/2 x 11 piece.

Stitched on your choice of fabric, the chart comes with 6 entire skeins of Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses, and a bit of DMC. Lots of pretty color, cute little pictures buried within, it's a very cheerful thing!

An exuberant Santa, dressed in a coat of 'Merry Wildness', he's sporting a beard of the new DMC Memory Thread! First the coat -- swirls, stripes and polka dots of regular DMC cotton floss -- Be Claus is stitched on Weeks Dye Works 30ct Peoria Purple linen, in reds, greens, purples and white, and measures approx 6 x 10-1/2. He's embellished with black buttons and some silver bugle beads.

His beard has wired-thread curls all over it! DMC's new Memory Thread -- this variety of it -- is a thin copper wire, wrapped with cotton fibre. You wrap it around something like a pencil to get the little swirlies... and then just tack those onto the needlework! Totally fun and different... the wired Memory Thread comes in something like 14 colors on individual spools -- and we're getting it!Make sure to see ab's Halloween pieces that feature Memory Thread, too!

Trail Creek Farm has a new Christmas design that is bright, festive and fresh! Brilliant reds, pinks, golden yellow and lime greens, the stitched design finishes just under 3 x 3 on Weeks 30ct hand-dyed linen, and is worked in Crescent Colours overdyeds or DMC floss. The chart comes with a teeny brass heart charm, and the chart does call for a few Mill Hill petite seed beads -- which you might already have in your stash.

I LOVE, however, Susan's trademark Star Pillow that finishes this piece! (it IS called Star of Hope, after all!) Her 9-ish inch stuffed star features two different green fabrics -- so you can choose your favorite side as the front! A lavish wire-ribboned organza bow and gold hanger dress the top.

Trail Creek also has another new pillow style -- her Baby Chunk Square -- and she's done one in the same colorways for this design, as well. Quite the cute, pudgy cube, it's approx 8 x 8 x 4-1/2. A delightfully different size and shape! SO... choose just the chart, or the chart and Star Pillow, or chart and Baby Chunk Pillow!

The 26th annual Olde Worlde Santa is a skater this year! He's holding a hockey stick, and carrying gifts and skates to all!

Same small card format, same stitch count and same fun color scheme... your 2009 Skater Santa matches all the rest of Prairie Schoolers annuals!

Emie Bishop of Cross 'n Patch has a new Hardanger pattern that is lovely and very versatile! Delivered in leaflet format, it features 6 Quilt-block-type designs, corner treatments, and the most gorgeous cross stitched Christmas garlands of every shape.

Stitch just one of the Hardanger motifs, or do them all... re-arrange them into a bell pull or long sampler... the floral sprays can garnish almost any shape you need, that's a very cool feature of this design. Regular flosses, perles and beads, your fabric choice will determine final design sizes.

The Silver Needle is proud to debut Terrence Nolan's newest design for Dimples Designs! Christmas Wishes is Terrence's adaptation of a turn-of-the-century Christmas Card, and it is STUNNING! With a stitch count of 359 x 232... and a DMC color listing of 100 different colors.. it is a companion to Christmas Kisses... and just as intricately awesome! Santa is here... wrapping his arms around all his dolls and toys.. for his favorite girls and boys. He's keeping them safe and away from the blowing snow, because it's 'delivery night' you know...!

Intense, bold colors, SOLID stitching, I look at this chart, and know I'll do better enjoying the cover photograph!!! This, as with Christmas Kisses, is not for the weak-of-stitcher!!! The 2009 set of *word* ornaments... we had 6 last year that were top sellers... this year's set is even better!!! Words of the Christmas Season... these are all small ornament-sized designs that finish approx 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 on 14ct perforated paper. Each is stitched in DMC flosses and embellished with lots of glass seed beads.

Naughty and Nice are darling! Hope and Star are elegant... just beautiful! Holly and Jolly are a cute, traditional pair. Cut them out when you're finished... that gives them the slightly curved shapes you see. Real cute!

Oh my gosh... this year's set of small tree ornaments is outstandingly cute! Check out the little Reindog, Downy Dove and the little penguin! The skates and sled are something new we've never had before in these small ornaments... and the Nativity is just ON!

OK you Santa collectors! We bring you Mill Hill's Annual Santas #31, 32 and 33! Joining all the Alpines, Musicals, Mountain, and generally Olde World in flavor St Nicks... this year's come from the Arctic Circle!!! Greenland, Lapland and Eskimo... these are always complete kits that offer your Santa stitched on 14ct perforated paper, with a 3-dimensional floss beard and mustache, and relatively few bead embellishments.

Kind of reminiscent of antique paper ornaments. They are really neat on a Christmas Tree because they catch the lights, and look very beautifully *handmade!* Offered as complete kits of chart, paper, flosses, beads and needles, each finishes approx 3-3/4 x 4-3/4.

Linda presents a lovely silk qauze piece that stitches a mere 2 x 6 on 40ct! Of course, you can stitch it on something larger... and it'll be pretty either way... but the charm of the 40ct silk qauze is simply its finished presentation.

Joining four other designs in her Petites Collection, Linda is using overdyed flosses in her gauze designs -- something that we haven't been treated to before.

Christmastide is a stunning Holiday piece that has a bold, moving background, behind the 1930s verse she's taken from an old Christmas Card. Check out 'Winter' as well... it's the second season, and joins Autumn, which has been a shop favorite since it arrived!

A teeny thing... Winter stiches a mere 1 x 2 on the provided 40ct silk gauze! Included with the chart is that gauze... you stitch it the same way you do anything else... only you need to do only a HALF of the cross stitch, not the whole thing!

Calling for overdyed flosses gives the design lots of interest -- can you see the 'lines' in the background? That's the overdyed. Just exquisite!

The last 4 small card designs in Heart in Hand's Christmas Markings set have arrived! Teeny things, they make a quick ornament when stitched individually, but quite a splash when stitched all together in their set. 'I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.'

Cute things in the surrounding border design -- but not Scrooge!!! We have the entire set of small cards available, as well as the border chart and embellishments.

THIS is darling! An Olde-Worlde Santa, stitched over one thread on 32ct, he is two-sided, and has a top and bottom! Stitched with DMC flosses, the charts are clear, and instructions to assemble (presented in both French and English) include actual finishing photos. Santa is approx 3 x 5. He stores your scissors inside... they are tied to that red ribbon coming out of the top.

On Santa's back... is his sack full of 'toys' -- a darling set of Butterfly Couture hand-made clay-topped Christmas pins! The little 'basket' is a thimble sized piece that is stitched over two threads, cut out, stuffed and attached to the back. Pins stick in like a pin cushion.

This is precious! It is so unique, on the large side for an ornament... I think it should hang on your tree every year anyway! What a fantastic way to hide scissors, pins, and maybe even a few needles!!!!!! CHARMING!!! Presented in chart format with Christmas Pins.

Nan has a trio of Snow Drops - ornaments for 2008!!! Darling snow-people ornaments -- just like Count LeScarrot -- these three are stitched on 28ct white/opalescent Cashel Linen in shades of DMC flosses. Stitch count is 1-1/2 x 5 inches, and each sports a charming embellishment... and NEEDS a trip to the hairdresser!!! (Check out the festive Fuzzy Stuff hair-dos...)

Absolutely the silliest and cutest things, they'll be so much fun on your Christmas Tree... the sparkling white will really show up against the greenery. Each features a crystal snow drop at its base, and LOTS of individual personality! Offered as the set of three charts with embellishments, three linen cuts, and one card of the Fuzzy Stuff to share amongst the three!

We've had this little guy for some time... and I was going to put him up on the website early this summer... but the timing didn't seem right... 105 degrees outside! Anyway, I kind of forgot about him, till we were doing our 'pre-sale cleaning!' He's one of Valerie Pfeiffer's darling little birds... singing Christmas Songs!!!

Offered as a chart, he finishes approx 3 x 3 on 28 or 32ct, and is stitched in DMC flosses. I think he's precious... and I didn't want another year to go by without giving him his little place of honor on our website!

Stitching Parlour has had a nice piece out for a while that is a pretty Nativity scene. Offered in chart format, it measures approx 6 x 18 on 14 or 28ct. What makes it special, though, are the Lazy Daisy stitches that make up all the palm fronds! They add so much interest, they just make this piece 'POP!'

It is embellished with a Mill Hill gold star button, and calls for 30 bitty brass stars to embellish the trees. In lieu of the stars, we suggest gold beads -- probably already in your stash, and they won't tarnish! A charming Christmas piece.

Mirabilia's 100th design, this is an elegant Santa with a candy-cane-red scarf and flowing robes. Always the Mirabilia Trademark 'movement' and shading, this piece features a 3/4 inch crystal embellishment for the little tree topper.

It comes with the chart... and not offered separately. (So don't lose it, and don't loan the chart!) DMC flosses, metallics and beads... on 32ct Twilight Blue it finishes approx 13 x 17. Elegant!

Ok... these are here... but the set of 4 of them has NO NAME!! They are a set of 4 cross-stitch and beaded snowmen -- on 14ct perforated paper -- the one at the top left is Northern, next is Southern, next are are Eastern and Western! (And I don't 'get it!'... they're all frozen... and I can't tell WHAT area of the country ANY of them come from!!!) They ARE darling... I love the circular borders... and the colors are cheerful!

Offered as complete kits of the paper, flosses, beads and Jim Shore button... our shop models will be on linen... and we might even make up a set that finishes ROUND -- without the corner motifs! Cute snowmen... life seems so odd... my daffodils are blooming in my backyard, but the East Coast had that snowstorm the day we received our promo-sheets about these! In Australia it's 100 degrees... so I guess it just goes to show that you can get these *anytime of the year*... because eventually YOUR winter will come!!!!!

What an endearing little Santa Claus riding through the snow-frosted landscape, atop his trusty reindeer! (change that nose stitch, and Santa is riding on Rudolph!) Giulia's creation is stitched on Weeks Dye Works 35ct hand-dyed Mocha linen, and uses Sampler Threads, finishing approx 6 x 6-1/2 inches.

It is finished into an easel stand-up -- you could frame it, cube it, pillow it -- but what adds to the overall charm of the piece is the 'tufting' on the front! It reminds you of a little mattress!!! Pretty colors, a lovely, flowing design with the 'layers and layers' of different greens, it really has caught our eye in the shop, and we all love it! Well, we have totally fallen in love with these over-the-top huge and involved Heaven and Earth Christmas and Classical American pieces of Folk Art. Offered in chart format, I ordered a few, simply because I personally like them... and thought you might too. Well... collectively, you bought them ALL... so I *was forced* to pick some more... and they arrived today!!! (Lindy Legener -- that would be me -- could never sit still long enough to do one of these... but I KNOW there are tons of you out there who DO!)

I just love looking at the charts! Anyway, we have 17 new ones to show you on the H & E pages... and I thought The Toy Box was a lovely intro piece! And, you know... it IS only January, you have lots of weeks ahead in 2009 to get working on these... lots of winter days ahead, lots of traveling, lots of quiet evenings... Go For It!

Well... you have a little time to get these done in time for next Christmas!!! Mill Hill brings us a beautiful leaflet presenting 12 of artist Jim Shore's designs for those 12 days of Christmas. Finishing approx 6 to 7 inches square each, the fabric you choose determines the final size of each block.

Lots of bright floss colors and elegant Mill Hill beads, they show the French Hen by itself -- she's stunning! Offered as the leaflet, beads, fabrics, buttons, etc offered separately. Seems pricey... but actually, each design costs less that $2!

A chubby tree, decorated with tiny lights and little candles, we've taken Judy's Christmas Tree of words design, and stitched it on 18ct linen, adding a whole set of clay buttons to the finished piece, for color and fun! What started as a small, simple thing... grows into a 7-1/2 x 7-1/2 Easel Stand-up!

Worked in either #5 Hand-dyed perle or regular flosses, the stitching will take you no time at all... the buttons do all the work! A button placement sheet accompanies the clay pack. Very festive! Offered as the card, with buttons separately.

Artwork by Ruth Sanderson, you'll recognize this one as coming from the Night Before Christmas Poem!

Classic colors, beautiful details, the stitch count of this one is a mere 400 x 303! Offered as a chart.

Gosh, this is THE CUTEST!!! Santa's North Pole retreat, he's up in bed sleeping while all the commotion is taking place down below! Check out his sleigh out there on the roof... his hat drying on the stove pipe, the elves passing notes via the pulley system. There is a sewing elf, complete with his plugged-in iron! I love the chick in the basement, doing the paperwork... and check out the seal *who has popped through a hole in the ice* for a visit!!!

The mailbag full of letters to Santa, the snowman on the roof... don't miss the little rock that is the weight down at the bottom of the North Pole! So, so much to look at in these designs, they are a lot of stitching work, but if you have the right place to display the finished product, they ARE worth the effort and fun comments you'll get from everyone who sees them!!!

Blue Ribbon has released two new Christmas designs, Peppermint Twist -- which is shown -- and Countdown to Christmas -- which is a darling Advent Calendar.

PT is a medley of Christmassy and Winter motifs, all packed together into a sampler format, or split apart, and sewn into small needlework smalls. You can make ornaments out of your favorite parts, stitch the pinkeep, scissor fob, or needlebook, too!

Pretty colors of Weeks cotton are used -- Curry, Garnet, Hazelnut, Holly, Hunter, Liberty and Snowflake, which you probably already have in your stash. Very pretty, the main piece finishes approx 8-1/2 x 9-1/2 on 32ct. Offered as a chart.

I don't know what about this little guy captures my fancy, but I think he's just the cutest thing! Stitched on 14 or 28ct white, he finishes approx 4 x 9, he's stitched in plain-good-old-fashioned solid colors of 321, 814, 699, 702 and 704 DMC floss, and contains no special stitches. No metallics, no beads, just a whole LOT of charm! Offered as a leaflet.

Now... you *could* add some furry Wisper to his beard... you could add beads to that pine border, metallic to the ornaments and his coat... or not! You could even stitch *just* his face or the Joy and use them as ornaments! (and you even have that border that turns corners, and goes on the bias, so you could stitch IT around other tiny motifs for other fun ornaments!!!... but I'm getting carried away, here!)

This is a chart-pack that offers a trio of small oval pictures, that are shown finished into fun little tasseled ornaments. Simple designs, each is stitched in a combination of overdyeds and DMC flosses.

Surrounded by lacy borders, because they are solid stitching inside the border, they appear to be miniature portraits! Offered as the pack of three charts.

Cat's Whiskers has a new 'Secret Message Boxtop' design, that features a small flapped area that opens to reveal your secret greeting! Stitched on 32ct Raw/gold metallic linen (the fabric has gold metallic woven into it, so it glistens just a little bit!) you work the 5 x 5-ish design, and then add the 4 extra flaps of fabric on top of the original piece. The ribbon in the center holds the flaps closed, so when you untie them, you see the Ho Ho Ho that was stitched in the center of the original piece!

Real cute and different, if you mount this into a box top... you can fill the box with fun things. It would make a fun pillow or framed piece, as well. Offered as the leaflet with clear charts and complete assembly instructions. (The companion to the Spook-A-Boo box!)

Terrence Nolan of Dimples Designs has treated The Silver Needle to a *LOVELY* vintage Christmas design -- his adaptation of a turn-of-the-century Christmas card! My words can't describe how beautiful this piece is 'in person.' It is stitched in DMC flosses -- 90 different colors -- with gold metallic blending filament and #4 braid accenting the border and 'A Joyful Christmas' lettering. The piece is solid stitching, so fabric choice is really personal preference.

Offered in chart form -- the 358 x 212 piece finishes 22 x 13 if you stitch it on 32ct linen. There is a full kit available, which includes 22ct Antique White Hardanger... making the finished piece approx 16 x 10. All the flosses are pre-sorted and beautifully tied onto numbered palettes in the kit -- almost too pretty to open and use!!! (actually, a very good value, too!) I just love the 'flavor' of this design. The shading is exquisite, there is so much depth, it's such a timeless classic! Thank-You, Terrence for our Christmas Kisses Exclusive Premier!!!

Judy Whitman has released 6 new small card designs... Christmas Tree is just one of them! One summer sailboat, two autumn pumpkin and acorn designs, and three Christmas pieces... this one intrigues me the most. LOOK at the tree... what you DO NOT SEE in there are the hearts, trees, reindeer, holly leaves and a bow! I think there are tiny trees and cardinals in there, too... that *aren't stitched!* Your clues are the star at the tree's top, and that leaping reindeer -- can you find his shape hidden in the tree?

Offered as a small card, this piece is shown finished onto a Trail Creek Farm Giant Gingham Tree-Shaped pillow. Beautifully sewn, and stuffed FIRMLY -- very plump -- the 10 x 12 pillow is topped with a lavish organza bow. Very nicely done! MAKE SURE to see the rest of Judy's new things!

Homespun Elegance has a new Cinnamon Stick Design, and this year, it's Santa, stitched in tons of pretty threads on 10ct Tula! Calling for Weeks #5 Perle Cottons, Rainbow Gallery's Wisper for the fur and beard, and lots of flosses, he finishes an impressive 10 x 13... so he makes a generously-sized pillow! Santa's gift list is for a lucky stitcher. It reads, Samplers to Stitch, Sweaters to Knit, Rugs to Hook, and Quilts to Piece.

Offered as a chart, we have all the cute embellishments (a wooden spool on here, some tiny scissors, brass buttons, etc) included, as well. Very cute, this one BELONGS in the home of every stitcher!!!!

Poise your Punch Needles to make a cute set of 12 vintage-inspired snowmen ornaments. Finishing approx 3 x 4, each is punched using the same antique-flavored color palette of DMC and Weeks overdyed flosses, and is garnished with a few cream glass beads as the snowflakes. Mount onto pieces of Week's wool for a quick-finish, they're just simple and sweet.

Each design is presented as the line drawing, so you'll need to trace it onto weaver's cloth from your stash. Included with each pattern, I've noticed, is a Christmas Cookie recipe! (Shown at right is only one of the set... click on that image to see all of them.) If the whole year isn't in your plans, choose one of two of these and make them into small cube stand-ups! Very nostalgic snowmen faces, in old Christmas colors!

An Oldie-but-Goodie arrived back in the shop this week... an old (1996) -- but freshly printed -- 144-page softcover book stuffed full of 40 different Santa designs previously published by Leisure Arts PRIOR to 1996! The finishing options are a little dated, but the designs are timeless. You've got Olde Worlde Santas, whimsical, stockings, samplers, and scenes all stuffed into one book. Quite a bit in here, some of these old designs are just the best! All charted for DMC flosses.

Another of Leisure Art's classic Oldies Books... I LOVE these vintage-inspired designs that are so hard to find anymore. This leaflet contains 6 awesome designs (stitched on 14 or 28ct, that are pairs. Finishing approx 3 x 6, 4 x 7 and 5 x 8, each pair has a FEATURED 9 x 12 paper mat that is included in the book, so you can use it in your framing process. See the holly berries on the two cover designs? THAT paper is included IN THIS BOOK for your finishing. Very well done, very traditional, all are coded for DMC floss. Absolutely charming designs!

I just want to highlight -- in one place on our site -- Nan's lovely collection of Christmas Stockings. Each have been annual releases, and cover 8 years! Timeless designs, each is prettier than the last. Lots of horizontal bands, pretty stitches, beads and crystals, you'll notice that the top bands do not feature names. If you like, you can add that to the top of each... but I like that small tag that can hang off the side... a really classy way to announce the owner!

The Angel Stocking features a center area that will fit ANY of Nan's 15 Annual Angels... so you have LOTS of choices for this one! (You could stitch the whole family angels, using the same main stocking design. This leaflet includes one angel design.)

Little Victor -- Nan's first grandson -- arrived almost 5 years ago, and his stocking does differ from the rest. He has that darling teddy bear, and lots of tiny motifs from Nan's other Christmas designs! More color for Victor -- he IS kind of a bold little personality -- so he deserves to be different from the rest!

Anyway, quite an eye-catching collection of elegant stockings, totally different from the usual whimsical stockings available... stunning hanging from an elegant, traditional mantle! Each is offered as the leaflet with embellishments.

Every year, Homespun Elegance brings us ornament designs... one is always a Santa, one always a snowman, and the third is always a house or sampler. Offered as charts, each comes with a small brass embellishment of some sort. This year's set is CHARMING! 'Santa, Please Bring Me' features a scissor charm on the Santa, Rainbow Gallery Wisper threads for his beard and fur trim, and the list he's reading asks for 'linen, floss and TIME TO STITCH!!!'

The snowman piece is worked on Weeks hand-dyed Aztec Red 30ct linen, and the 'ABC Noel House' is worked on Weeks 30ct Dolphin. All finish in the neighborhood of 3 x 4-ish, and use some overdyed flosses, as well as DMCs. We have quite a few of the previous year's designs available... I checked my shop stash, and we have some back to 1999! So check out the Homespun Elegance pages and see if you can find some of the rest in these cute sets... they are popular every year!

The Prairie Schooler presents their 4th annual Santa kit! (no... the small annual card #25 for 2008 is NOT here yet... we'll let you know when it comes!) Designed for Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses... each year, these are stitched on 28ct Natural Linen, and finish approx 5 x 8. This year's limited edition design is stitched with Cupid, 3 skeins of Blackbird, 2 skeins of Spinach, and one each of Magnolia Blossom and Rosy Glow.

I love the scene... I think this is the best of the 4 designs so far!!! Offered as the chart, linen and flosses, we do still have 2005, 06 and 07 available. They are limited in production, so I don't know how long the previous designs will be offered to us. THIS ONE IS CUTE!!!

Mill Hill has released the 2008 set of Christmas Button & Bead kits... we've been treated to these for years and years, and this set is one of the BEST! We have two new additions to the 12-pc Christmas Village Series -- Carolers and the Needlework Shop! The four new Carols are stunning!!! Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, Silent Night and Joy to the World are very eye-catching, and so full of bold design element.

Celebrating the Nutcracker Ballet... each 3 x 4-1/2 ornament is stitched on 14ct perforated paper with DMC flosses and Mill Hill beads. Stitch just one or two, or all six for your tree.. they'd be kind of fun hanging in the same general area. They don't use any metallic threads, and I personally think there are lots of places that you could add some -- just for fun. See what threads you have in your stash, and get to work! Think about stitching a whole army of Nutcrackers -- you could change uniform colors. Think about stitching the Sugar Plum Fairy for all the little girls in a dance class! Trail Creek Farm has 'redesigned' herself a bit, and is offering a new updated finished pillow look! Susan is now hand-screening fabrics with her own artwork, and then assembling pillows with exposed, surged edges -- kind of a modern, funky look -- and applying BELLY BANDS!

Christmas Noel was my favorite from Market this season... it's a green, cappuccino and burgundy plaid complimented with Susan's screened poinsettias. The pre-sewn Belly Band features a 20-ish count evenweave inset... stitched with her Noel Christmas design... and than wrapped around the pillow and buttoned! Stunning colors, the fabrics and designs are fresh and trendy! Everything is pre-sewn, pillow measures approx 10 x 12, all kitted up, ready to go... you get the pillow, Belly Band, chart and flosses... and I love it!

Christmas is bursting in May in this vibrant and energized whimsical piece by artist Janet Stever. Charted by Lavender Wings, the 32ct Black Belfast Linen specified in the chart is NOT for the weak-of-sighted! The energy in this piece is apparent, the colors are gorgeous, the subject is absolutely over-the-top-charming!

Offered as a leaflet, this finishes approx 9-1/2 x 10-1/2 on the 32ct. It *does need to be* stitched on something dark-ish, like a black or navy blue. 38-ish Colors of DMC flosses, a bit of gold metallic, the chart includes the glass bead embellishments and some gold stars.

LOTS of quarter and back stitches, the chart is printed in 3 colors so you can tell the difference at a glance. I love the little bunny, I love the colors, I love the burst of love coming from Santa's Sack!

Offered by ByGone Stitches, we are treated to this decidedly intricate Quaker-inspired spot motif sampler... with a bit of Christmas tossed in! Available in chart format, the whole piece measures approx 20 x 13 on 32ct, and is worked in only three colors of overdyed threads.

Now... study this a bit. The chart is very clearly done... you'll probably want to highlight the three different colors with highlighters. Next... realize that this has potential to be a family sampler... by simply changing the JOY, PEACE, and NOEL words and various scattered letters to those that have significance in your family. It doesn't have to be 'Christmas' if that's not a goal in your decorating scheme, or stitching schedule!

The design is awesome -- such great balance and symmetry -- especially for a spot-motif piece -- it's just elegant! As is, it calls for 20 skeins of Crescent's Balsam Fir, 2 skeins of Cupid and 1 of Ye Old Gold. Look at your decor, choosing your favorite green, a touch of red and gold... and order enough thread at the onset to finish this! All crosses, offered as the chart... this is stunning!

Here's Big Nick's Main Squeeze -- Big Mama!!! This is a darling companion to Big Nick -- published by Sisters & Best Friends. AB Designs is half of 'Sisters'... who are still *sisters* and *best friends*... just not a team of designers anymore. They each have their own company... so now its kind of fun to look back at the Sisters Page, and guess who really was behind which design!!!

Anyway, here's Big Mama... waiting for her man with a big 'ole Christmas Pudding on her lap! Check out the reindeer slippers! There are more snowmen you can see through the window in the background, and even though the wallpaper is the same... the friends in the room have changed. Offered as the chart with lots of fun bead embellishments, she measures approx 12 x 12 on 28ct. Pretty colors... lots of visual impact!!!

Prairie Moon has been working on this set of stockings for some time... and we are now up to the 4th Day! #1 Is pictured here... it companions Day Two. Days 3 and 4 feature more of the primitive village scenery, but with different trees and houses. Each Day has it's featured gift... #1 has the Partridge in the Pear Tree. #2 Features the Two Calling Birds... you get the idea!

Kind of the same, kind of different from each other, offered in chart format... each is stitched on 28ct linen in overdyeds, and finishes approx 15 inches high and 9 inches wide at the toe. Too late for Santa's 2007 Visit... these are perfect to begin as a set for a family that is NOT into 'frilly'! (To make identification easier... just put your cursor over the individual stocking images to see their names.)

This is a neat pattern that caught our eye in the shop! Offered as a chart, it features charming, lacy evergreens, and a perky little cardinal that decorate a miniature gameboard. Stitched on 30ct hand-dyed, it measures approx 5 x 13, and is worked in Sampler Threads and Crescent overdyeds -- just three colors!

Now... if you're an impatient stitcher, think about stitching the top half and maybe three of the checkerboard rows! The little trees would make such pretty ornaments, too!

A little angel-shepherd on her Christmas Journey... Tina's tiny design for Christmas 2007 is stitched on 32ct Medieval Green in 9 shades of solid and hand-dyed silks. A deep grape, and lots of softer mauves, moss and buttermilk, the 3 x 4-ish design features a few easy stitches and a small yellow star embellishment.

Actually quite finish-able in time for Christmas... the complete kit contains the chart, linen, silks, needle and star. Three other designs have been released along with 'Come'... so check 'em out, too!

WHY is this squared, simple design SO charming??? I wonder if its because Santa is standing in his sleigh (something you never do in a row boat!), and his glasses are flying a full stitch OFF his head! What about the square little houses with their organized pines and chimneys... the reindeer are all so alert and perfectly poised... the fabric is quite distressed... it doesn't match the perfect symmetry of the design... I just love it!!!

Offered as a chart, this finishes approx 10 x 10 on 28ct. Although the pattern calls for 14ct white aida that you distress... think about all the different hand-dyeds on the market. This is a definite!!!

This is quite the bustling village... stitched in *only* 106 different colors of DMC floss!!! Welcoming Nutcrackers at the gate to the city, The Claus Cafe, Elf Lodge, Santa's Workshop, and the Reindeer Barn all surround the central Christmas Tree -- the heart of the village.

Offered as a chart... you get all 8 pages in one continuous sheet of symbols and backstitching for ease in motif placement. Cheryl notes that nothing in this design overlaps anything else... so it's a perfect option to re-arrange onto a tree skirt, or something like that! Use all the individual trees over and over again.. change the dress colors on some of the people.. get creative... and make something spectacular for NEXT year!!!

Simply charming, there are lots of cute details in here, and stitched as is -- this finishes approx 13 x 17 on 28ct. If you decide on a 10ct tree skirt, your buildings will measure approx 8 to 10 inches each... PERFECT!!! Get the pattern, study it a bit, and make your plan!!! One of my favorite Christmas passages... I always remember Linus taking his thumb out of his mouth and quoting this in front of the little Charlie Brown Christmas Tree! OK... this design DOES present a different flavor and remembrance for those words! Designed by Midsummer Night Designs, this is stitched in DMC and overdyeds and finishes approx 5 x 10 on 36ct.

The sky's the limit on fabric choices with something like this... you can finish it in a cube, a shown, or maybe a pillow, if you choose a larger count fabric. The halo is stitched in gold metallic, along with all the stars in her dress. Very pretty!

Holy Cow... This wonderful softcover compilation of nine of the most favored Christmas Stocking patterns EVER published... is available again!!! Originally appearing annually in Cross Stitch and Country Crafts Magazines beginning in the late 1980's... we were treated to a new stocking every year... for 10-12ish, years, I think... until the Magazine and publishing rights ceased. For a few years following, leaflets of the stockings were available... then they stopped. Then this particular book came out... and it went out of print shortly thereafter.

So, to make a long story short, this collection has been very hard to get -- all at one time -- for quite some time!!! Beautiful pictures, nice charts, all in 64 pages! Even if your stash already has some of these charts, get this book!!! You'll never be sorry you did! Each stocking is stitched on 25ct Lugana and measures approx 11 x 17, stitched in DMC flosses. Definitely family heirlooms, the nine featured are the Workshop, North Woods, Music Room, Kitchen, Home, Sugar and Spice, Stitcher's Studio, Toys & Games, and Study!!!

An intricate Christmas sampler... this features lacy Whitework and a bit of Hardanger all tucked between bands of the Angels on High, the Shepherds Watching their Sheep, the Three Wise Men, and Jesus in the Manger. The story of Christmas is told band by band, stitched in silks and metallics on 28ct Smokey Pearl Cashel Linen.

Finishing approx 5 x 23... study the bands a bit... there are so many small border designs in this... each of the special scenes could be stitched by itself for a neat little stand-up... connect it all horizontally... it fits! Victoria Sampler is delivering another exquisite piece.

The *huge* Accessory Thread Pack is a 'Who's-Who' of silks, metallics and embellishments! Lovely charts, diagrams and stitches, it promises to spark lots of Christmas memories!

One of two new designs, this is a lovely, subdued winter sampler. Since Lindy was still gone when this came in, your weary webmaster consulted one of the shop experts on this. Mona tells me that the inner motif would also make a great fob, and that she would choose a lambswool fabric.

Measuring anywhere from 12 x 7 on 40 ct, down through 17 x 10 on 28 count, it has been stitched in Bell Soie silks.

Mirabilia has designed their second annual Christmas Tree... and it's truly lovely! An exquisite study in greens and whites, the beads are pretty, and the Crescent Colours look like a crispy, fresh caeser salad!!! 12 Doves decorate your 28ct Dirty Linen (sounds so nasty!) confection that finishes approx 8 x 12.

She describes this as a Blue Frasier Fir decorated with swirling snow, icy crystal forest branches and fluttery birds. The colors are so unexpected and restful -- so many shades of green. We think of nature as one color... till you study it for a minute! Yes... my caeser salad's lettuce has ALL these colors!!! Kit contains the chart, 6 packages of seed beads and 15 complete skeins of Crescent Colours overdyed flosses!

I remember this song from Christmas Programs when I was a little girl, and still love hearing it! (I think I was a sheep one year... in something like 2nd grade!) Erica Michaels takes this classic piece, and had added the stable full of the donkey, cow, sheep and dove... surrounded it with the Shining Star, and falling snowflakes all around.

Just a really neat Christmas piece... this is offered as a single chart, and is worked on 36ct Summer Khaki Edinburgh Linen in Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses. Finishing approx 6 x 9, she has the roof charted for Alternating Scotch Stitches for a little texture, but offers the alternate chart of regular crosses as well. I just like everything about this... and I can't wait till our shop model is finished and on display!!

Offered as a chart, finishes approx 5 x 5, and is full of 'fluffy charm!' I love those little straight stitches on the hat and Santa's beard -- that's what makes the 'fluff.'

Pretty colors, nice face details with cheerful smiles, this is just cute!

Two darling recipes by Lili Point -- one for the outside, and the other for the inside!!! Both are offered as charts, stitched in regular cross stitches in a medley of white, coral, garnet, orange spice, and soft browns. Not your typical holiday color palette, but these somehow, really work! Stitched on 32ct, they finish approx 12 and 13 inches square -- actually pretty large.

Like all the rest of Lili Point's designs, these two are charming, fresh, clean and young looking. The recipes sound good, too! Something easy to stitch, lots of visual impact, might be time to refresh some of your older Christmas decorations!!!

Two more Lili Point designs for Christmas that are just delightful! That little medley of trees is just the best! You can stitch it as is... or think about doing single trees as small ornaments... lining them all up side-by-side for a long, skinny piece... or even simply stitching your favorite two or three! Recipe for Christmas is a companion to the Gingerbread and Snowman Recipes, I like the simple lines and fresh flavor to these designs.

The recipe finishes approx 13 x 13, while the trees measure in at a whopping 16 x 18!!! You can do some serious fabric count changes with that one! The Trees chart includes a few red glass bead embellishments, while the Recipe includes some brass stars and a red star for one of the tree tops.

This is an exquisite ornament design finished into a little 'tuffet-like' cushion! The particular shape of this piece is called a Biscornu -- pronounced 'bis-cor-new' -- and is becoming quite the needlework rage! We started to notice this delightful shape last year, and even made one at last Fall's Camp Wannasew weekend. (They finish easily in about an hour.)

Nan has designed a lovely piece... trees on one side and snowflakes on the other... and then added a Whimzi Hanger... and we're treated to an exquisite ornament! No hanger... and it can be a pin cushion. Offered as a leaflet, with accompanying embellishment pack, your Biscornu is stitched in silks and metallics and garnished with beads, glass flowers, crystal buttons, and finishes to a 3-4 inch size. The embellishment pack includes the optional ring to attach to the piece, and hangers are offered separately. So, so pretty and unique!

Nan's 2007 Christmas Band Sampler, is stitched in Weeks overdyed flosses, bits of #4 metallic Braid, and #8 Perle Cottons. The satin-y flowers, the lacy trees, all is garnished with lots of tiny gold beads. I don't know the design size yet, or any stitch details... so all we have at the moment is this tiny teaser pic!

Every year, Mill Hill does 3 old-time Santa ornaments in simple cross stitch with a little bead embellishment. This is the 9th year to add to the set of Musical, Mountaineer, Polar... all of the previous 24 are pictured on our MH Kits pages. Stitched on 14ct Perforated Paper, each finishes approx 3 x 4-1/2, and makes a charming hand-made addition to any Christmas tree!

For the 'gazillionth' year in a row... we have a new set of tiny beaded Christmas Tree ornaments! Always cute, always 2 x 3-ish in size, always complete little kits loaded with floss, beads and sometimes a Treasure embellishment to two, they take an evening or two or three to complete. Stitched on 14ct perforated paper, the holes are easy to see, they're so colorful, and the beads just glisten reflecting the lights from your tree. Just look at that Christmas Cardinal... it's FUZZY! (How cute is that? We have a tiny springtime bluebird just like it, too.) The white angel will be stunning against the greenery of your tree, too!

Our local embroider's guild chapter always stitches a few dozen of these to decorate a huge wreath that they donate to our local Philbrook Museum of Art's Holiday fundraiser (each member does one kit.) You may not be able to stitch a 'few dozen' ornaments... but choose 5 or 6 from all the years and years of kits we have still available on our MH pages, and make yourself a tiny wreath! What a cool gift, too!

Mirabilia has begun an annual set of Christmas Trees... this is the first! 'It sparkles red, green, and gold with boughs gloriously laden with ornaments and draped with strands of sparkling beads.' Offered as the Limited Edition chart with packages of 7 different Mill Hill glass beads, 2 different crystal rondele Treasures packages, two reels of Kreinik Blending Filament, and a Mill Hill glass star Treasure for the tree top, you add the linen -- a 13-1/2 x 17 Cut -- of 32ct Natural Belfast, and the DMC flosses.

There are only nine colors of floss in this... it's just so full of glitz and charm... that it looks as though you've used 35 or 40!!! Finishing approx 7-1/2 x 11, this looks like it would be a lot of fun to stitch and 'decorate!'

Sisters & Best Friends' newest Big Santa... he goes with the other 4 they already have published! Packed FULL of bright, cheerful color, this year's Santa features beaded trim on his package and a beaded rope -- with Swarovski crystals -- that closes his bag. Check out the tiny mouse perched atop the kitty... all in front of the window!

Offered as a leaflet with embellishment pack of beads, crystals, clay peppermint and holly, some stars and buttons, Big Nick measures approx 12 x 12 on 28ct, and is stitched in regular DMC flosses. I just love the colors and the shading... such a big puffy chair, such cute trees and that sack... and such a teeny little face on Nick! Charming!

Homespun Elegance's 2006 Snowman Ornament is actually pretty darn cute! Always a snowman, always offered as the chart with tiny embellishment of some sort... this year's features the snowman flying across the sky in a sleigh that looks remarkably like a reindeer!!! The cows (they always have square rear-ends!) in the front yard are really sheep... I read the directions!

Finishing approx 3 x 4 on 28ct linen, you'll need the bits of overdyed and DMC flosses from your stash.

JBW has released the neatest set of tiny ornament designs that all fit into one gigantic Advent Calendar design! So, so many options with this great set of designs... the main piece features a huge border surrounding all the tiny 2 x 2-ish ornamental squares that Velcro onto their corresponding date. (You could leave off all those date numbers as one of the options.)

The main calendar finishes approx 19 x 13 stitched on a cream or white Cashel Linen. Each individual ornament finishes a bit smaller than 2 x 2.There are several other options for everything, as shown in the pictures. Think about the individual cranberry velveteen tie pillows -- they measure 5 x 5. Then, there is a red, green and black flange pillow -- approx 7 x 12 -- that fits three ornament designs with part of that pretty main border.
What about finishing the ornaments individually any number of ways?
The sky's the limit with this!

Offered as the set of all charts and finishing ideas, there is an embellishment package included that features 5 different colors of glass seed beads, and 22 different tiny charms and buttons! It will stitch the entire set of ornaments. Very well done... this'll take a bit of 'studying' to choose your favorite options! (That's why I haven't quoted fabrics here.) Merry Christmas flows down the body of this looonnng and skiiinnny stocking... that is probably large enough to hold SEVERAL of Santa's Treasures!!! It's definitely the predominant message, and is trimmed by the cute little house and sleigh below! The top features the name-of-choice, while the toe area features the holiday scenery. The model is shown stitched on a hand-dyed 28ct Vatican Red Linen. You could choose any neutral that you like -- I don't think this HAS to be done on the red.

Using both overdyeds and DMC flosses, it's embellished with a few of Homespun Elegance's Olde Brass Buttons, for a bit of charm. Finishing approx 8-1/2 x 21, all it needs is your mantel!
