We at The Silver Needle have a special place in our hearts for "Erica Michaels!" Linda worked for us for a few years before she moved away. We're constantly in touch... so it feels like she's right in our backyard, instead of a few states away! These designs are full of fun threads and embellishments... Enjoy all of them! |
Second Spring
'Autumn is the second spring... where every leaf is a flower.' Erica Michaels has released 3 new silk gauze designs... Second Spring is featured in our pic. Trick or Treat, a tiny Halloween Stocking, and A Family Sampler are stunning... we have them below. Like all the others, Second Spring is presented in chart format, so you can stitch it on virtually any count fabric you wish. The chart comes with a bit of 40ct silk gauze... so if you are brave... you can stitch it into a 2 x 2 miniature masterpiece... or a cute 5 x 5 if you chose something like 28ct. Awesome Autumn colors, how can you NOT be drawn to this? It's stunning!
Trick or Treat
Who ever heard of a Halloween Stocking? This is darling!!! Erica Michaels has made a miniature stocking out of Weeks Dye Works hand dyed wools, and stitched the coordinating cuff over one on 40ct silk gauze! A jack-o-lantern face, just as simple as can be... your stitched area is only 2 x 2! These silk gauze designs are so *do-able!* I hope she does a whole series of these! If you're not a stocking-gal... just frame Trick or Treat... or make a needle case... or an ornament! Offered as the chart with bit of gauze, in case you want to try it!
A Family Sampler
Wow... this is a full-sized sampler... complete with border, alphabet, the house, verse and lots of family initials!!! The stitch count on this baby is 187 x 124. If you work it on the provided 40ct silk gauze... you'll have made an unbelievable 3 x 5 sampler. If you choose something a little larger -- like 28ct over two -- it'll finish approx 9 x 13!!!!! The verse quotes Thomas Jefferson... 'The happiest moments of my life have been the few which I have passed at home in the bosom of my family.' Pretty over-dyed colors, notice that whole bottom border section? It's full of family initials!!! Very neat, this is offered as the chart with a generous cut of the 40ct silk gauze... in case that is your fabric choice!
Mending
Erica Michaels has released two more tiny 40ct silk gauze pieces... this one catches my eye... because not only does she get those tiny stitches done on 40ct... but she incorporates SPECIALTY STITCHES on the gauze as well!!! Mending features a meaningful verse for stitchers. Its bottom border treatment uses Rhodes Stitches, so the 'tassels' at the bottom of the design actually are raised a little! Only 4 colors of threads in this piece... it is offered as the chart (which can be stitched on ANY count of fabric) and the cut of 40ct silk gauze to make this perfect little wisp of a piece!
Freedom Bits
Another itty-bitty seasonal wonder... remember, these finish a mere 1 x 2-ish... in TOTAL SIZE!!! The design comes charted like a regular cross stitch design... and includes a cut of 40ct silk gauze. Freedom Bits joins this delightful collection of tiny seasonals... each one is as cute as the other!!!!
St Patrick's & Easter Bits
Linda has outdone herself again... with 4 new 40ct silk gauze designs... here are just 2! Teeny-Weeny Easter and St Pats finish approx 1-1/2 x 2... and are stitched with only a HALF a Cross Stitch, with ONE strand of floss. Just like stitching 'over one' on linen... the gauze is actually thinner than linen, so the holes are twice the size. Doesn't seem to make sense, but trust me! Darling little designs, each is offered as the chart with bitty gauze cut. They mount into Olde Colonial's miniature frames -- we have every single one -- so your tiny masterpieces WILL turn out like these! (3 Days before Market, we had Linda's Easter model in the shop. I LOST it... and it was re-stitched in 11 hours... in time to show at Market! Lesson learned... these are exquisitely tiny... but very stitchable!!!
Time & Seasons
'He has made everything beautiful in it's time.' Oh, a lovely look out your window into your very own backyard... you are treated to the beauty of each season. Notice the tree is divided into the four seasons? Lower right brings Springtime with baby bunnies... Summer has the magnolia leaves, bluebirds and bees, Autumn's tiny guest is a squirrel perched on that tree branch, while Winter has that frosty sky and deep red cardinal. Stitch count of 105 x 105, this finishes approx 7-1/2 x 7-1/2 on 28ct BUTTTTTT a petite 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 on the provided 40ct silk gauze. A treat to yourself!
Papillon
'Papillon, Butterfly, Transformation, Resurrection.' Celebrating Spring and Renewal... this striking piece is stitched in either Belle Soie silks or DMC flosses. A deep green/black background, the reds and moss greens are stunning contrasts, and make the design POP! Stitch count of 80 x 80, this finishes 2 x 2! Chart includes the cut of 40ct silk gauze.
Happy New Year & Valentine's Day Little Bits
Erica Michaels has two new teeny-weeny pieces in her series of Bits. Of course, you can choose any size fabric to stitch them on... but her charts come with a small cut of 40ct silk gauze that makes these a mere trifle of 1-1/4 inches x 2! Absolutely breathtaking little things... we SAW one of our ladies stitch an entire one of these in ONE DAY at Camp Wannasew this past fall!!! You do only *half* of the cross stitch, with one strand of either DMC or hand-dyed floss. Awesome color, pretty designs... we have Linda's Trunk Show in the shop till February, so I hope you can make it in to see our almost 2-dozen confections of miniature perfection! Each is offered as the chart, and includes the gauze. We have ALL the little frames available for the Little Bits as well.
  Needle Nut
Oh, this is a CHARMING miniature acorn scissor fob that is stitched over one on 30ct silk gauze. (same size as over one on 30ct linen.) Erica Michaels' Linda has outdone herself with her latest releases -- we have 6 of them -- this is just one! Stitched with one strand of Gentle Art's Simply Wool thread... this tiny acorn finishes approx 1.7 x 2.2 inches -- you can see its size, because that's my hand in the pic! Chart comes with the gauze and brass acorn charm... we sell the wool thread separately. This tiny thing is just beautiful... it feels so good in your hand... I think because the wool is so soft, and it's a pleasing shape, the colors are soothing and gentle!
 We Are Blessed
'Let each of us be mindful of all we have for which to give thanks; friends, food, hopes, health and happy memories. So in giving thanks, we are blessed.' This piece is absolutely stunning... it's over-the-top awesome! Stitched over one on 40ct silk gauze using Weeks and Gentle Art flosses, it finishes approx 4 x 5 -- the stitch count being 197 x 157. (That's 11 x 14 on 14ct!!!!!) Very Autumnal in color, there are acorns rounding the border, and a subtle Fleur-de-Lis pattern in the background. Chart includes the cut of gauze needed. The overdyed threads called for give you that aged look, and are available separately. Solid stitching... this is breathtaking!!!
Little Bits
Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kris Kringle!
NOTHING is as cute as these are -- one thread over one square of 40ct silk gauze -- Linda Stolz has definitely found her niche in silk gauze designing!!! We present a set of 5 tiny 1-1/4 x 2 inch designs for the Holidays!!! She even has Smryna Crosses in some of these -- over one on 40ct! Stitched with overdyeds and DMC flosses, you simply do a 1/2 a stitch to make these tiny creations! Each is offered as the chart with cut of gauze. YOU CAN STITCH THESE ON ANYTHING LARGER... if gauze is not your fancy -- on 28ct linen, they would finish approx 3-1/2 x 6, which is still pretty petite! Great colors, fun motifs, the Holiday name down the left-hand side adds a touch of contemporary. Be sure to click the images above so you can see these in their full glory!

Introducing... Very Berry! Linda Stolz of Erica Michaels has designed an EXQUISITE wool strawberry... stitched on 30ct silk gauze!!! Designed to be a scissor fob or tiny pin cushion this little 2-1/2 x 1-3/4 confection is *way too pretty* to eat... and I'd never stick pins in mine!!! Here are all the details!
Stitched in Continental Stitch (just the first half of a Cross Stitch), your berry calls for 5 different shades of Gentle Art's hand-dyed Simply Wool -- you'll be stitching with one ply of thread. The stitched berries that wrap around the piece are little checkerboards of Mulberry and Buckeye Scarlet, the blossoms have hints of golden Brandy in them, and the leaves are a deep Blue Spruce, all against a Roasted Marshmallow background! A miniature strawberry patch on your Very Berry! Next, the berry top features matching Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed wool leaves!!!

Charted for regular stitching, you could do this on linen... but our exclusive kit contains 30ct silk gauze instead! (Bigger holes than linen -- NO KIDDING!) When you are finished with the stitching, the long side is joined into a cone-shape, and the top is drawn/gathered together, with tiny wool leaves attached to the top! Just darling!!!
Offered as the complete kit, we have included the chart, gauze, 8 complete skeins of Gentle Art's Simply Wool, Weeks Dye Works wool, and your needle. Complete assembly instructions are included, along with stitching tips for the gauze! I'm holding the precious little berry in my hands in some of our pics... you can see how petite it is, and how very special and unique! *Thank You, Linda* for designing something so awesome... just for The Silver Needle!
Grand Old Flag Wow... Erica Michael's Linda Stolz has really outdone herself with this one! An old-fashioned flag design, stitched in overdyeds... you can stitch this on any count fabric you like... or try the 40ct silk gauze included in the design package!
On 28ct... Grand Old Flag measures approx 3 x 5... BUT... if you decide to be adventuresome, and work on the gauze, you will be transported into Bliss! Grand Old Flag will measure a mere 1 x 3-1/2!!!
You can work it in regular cross stitches... and it will be lovely... but you can also work it in HALF the cross stitch... (you never even cross the X!)... and for 1/2 the work, you get *triple* the impact! A lovely little design, her overdyed color choices remind you of denim and raspberry, with age-stained white. Offered as a chart, the 40ct gauze is included -- *Just in Case!!!*
Land of Liberty A companion to Amazing Grace and Give Thanks, this is another design-on-top-of-design kind of thing. You see two different thoughts at
one time!
Offered as a chart, Land of Liberty finishes approx 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 and is worked with Sampler Threads overdyeds. Very pretty, very simple... a crisp contemporary feel.
Serenity God, Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change... Erica Michaels has stitched this quietly comforting statement in cross stitch. Serenity is presented as a chart; in the picture, it is stitched in only the first half of your cross stitches on 40ct silk gauze! (DO NOT PANIC! Remember, you're asking for Serenity, Courage and Wisdom!!!)
One of her Petite Collection of Silk Gauze pieces, these are all deceptively easy to execute... they appear to have 'streaks' in the backgrounds -- that's the overdyed floss at work for you! All the subtle color differences add lots of interest, without you doing any of that work!!! The Serenity Prayer is charted for stitching with or without 'God' in the top block of the design... I choose one way to stitch it, another may choose the other! (I think I have serenity, courage and wisdom about all that...!)
Anyway, this is offered in chart format, WITH the cut of 40ct silk gauze. It finishes approx 3 x 4 on the 40ct (could be 9 x 10 on 14ct aida or 28ct linen!) and is stitched in Weeks, and Gentle Art overdyes, and DMC 644. Very classy, I wish she'd shown the framed piece on her pattern cover... this is serious elegance in a custom frame!!!
Little Bit O' SummerLinda has rounded out her four TINY seasons with this wild seashore scene!!! The sand castle, the little terra cotta crab, pelican, bright sunshine, stormy sky, and those roiling waves... I was going to say all we needed was JAWS... but I do see a little sea turtle in those waves!!! A teeny-weeny 1 x 2 creation... this joins Spring, Autumn and Winter -- and all are *really neat!* Each framed piece fits easily into my hand... SUCH an eye-catcher displayed individually on a small plate easel! Olde Colonial makes the little frame you see here... We can send the chart (that contains the little piece of gauze) and that petite frame! Zip-Zap - you add schnigglets of your flosses to stitch this in about 15 hours... and you're done!
Random ThreadsErica Michaels has designed a *precious* miniature stitching piece!!! As part of her 40ct silk gauze series of Petites, Random Threads is a tiny 1.8 x 1.8 inches, and is a miniature medley of threads, spools, and 'sewing stuff.' All 1/2 crosses of Crescent's Belle Soie Silk -- the colors used are Chocolat, Cinnamon Stick and Vanilla Pudding! Sounds good enough to eat! Your mini confection will make an awesome scissor fob... but if you'd like to frame it in Olde Colonial's 'bead board' frame, we have it, too! An exquisite little piece! Offered as the chart with silk gauze. Crescent Silks and frame offered separately.
Little Bit O' SpringA colorful garden of Springtime flowers lined up in the Spring sunshine... 11 colors of Crescent's hand-dyed flosses are needed to stitch this tiny 1 x 2 inch wonder! Worked in half crosses (only the first stitch of an X) these really do stitch quickly! Offered as the chart with 40ct silk gauze, you CAN stitch these on any other fabric as well -- because, remember, you do have the chart! Summer is due out in a few weeks, which will complete the 4-Seasons set.
Amazing GraceA small and uplifting piece by Erica Michaels, this is simple cross stitches, worked with 7 different overdyed flosses. DMCs would work... on 14ct, this finishes approx 5 x 9... but changing fabrics will change your finished size. A lovely gift for someone special! Offered as the chart.
To Thee My Heart
Erica Michaels is into 40ct silk gauze these days... and this new piece is a stunning example of her talents! It is really only 1/2 stitches on 40ct, so the stitching measures a mere 1.7 x 2 inches... and is worked in only 4 colors of hand-dyed flosses and one DMC. A deep, rich green, accented with lighter green, golds and purples, we had the model in the shop for a few special days, and it was a real eye-catcher! A cool wedding or anniversary piece, or a gift for someone you love... the secret to working on the gauze is to highlight the parts of your chart that you have *finished.* That way, you eliminate lots of extra counting, and you know right where you are! Pattern includes the chart and the piece a gauze. You supply the bits of floss and the stitches! Exquisite! (Linda's Summer and Spring miniature gauze season pieces are due out in a few weeks... companions to Autumn and Winter!)
Christmastide
Linda presents a lovely silk qauze piece that stitches a mere 2 x 6 on 40ct! Of course, you can stitch it on something larger... and it'll be pretty either way... but the charm of the 40ct silk qauze is simply its finished presentation. Joining four other designs in her Petites Collection, Linda is using overdyed flosses in her gauze designs -- something that we haven't been treated to before. Christmastide is a stunning Holiday piece that has a bold, moving background, behind the 1930s verse she's taken from an old Christmas Card. Check out 'Winter' as well... it's the second season, and joins Autumn, which has been a shop favorite since it arrived!
Little Bit o Winter
A teeny thing... Winter stiches a mere 1 x 2 on the provided 40ct silk gauze! Included with the chart is that gauze... you stitch it the same way you do anything else... only you need to do only a HALF of the cross stitch, not the whole thing! Calling for overdyed flosses gives the design lots of interest -- can you see the 'lines' in the background? That's the overdyed. Just exquisite!
Little Bit o' Autumn
Linda is beginning a new collection of designs -- Petites -- all stitched over one on 40ct silk gauze!!! The stitched models (which are coming to the Celebrations Show in Louisville with us!) are *OVER THE TOP* exquisite and lovely! 3 Released so far... Autumn is the first of 4 seasons... and is stitched in 8 shades of Weeks hand-dyed flosses. It finishes a super-bitsy 1-1/2 x 2 inches, and is shown in one of Olde Colonial's teeny-weeny birdseye frames. Technically, the holes on silk gauze are larger than 40ct linen... and you are doing only half a cross stitch... so this really isn't seemingly impossible to stitch! You'll appreciate your magnifier a little more, and your family and friends will appreciate your talents a LOT more after they see the beautiful miniature you make! You can even re-stitch this on 10ct -- and have a 4 x 8 pillow! Chart includes lots of helpful information on gauze stitching, along with the gauze itself. Just stunning! (Winter releases mid-October 2008, Spring and Summer release February of 2009.)
My Best Friend
A tiny 1-1/2 inch square of stitches, this is worked in one ply of silk over one thread of 40ct silk gauze. Part of Erica Michaels's new Petites collection of designs, the chart comes with the gauze fabric, and great stitching instructions. Because of the simplicity of the design, this is a great beginning gauze piece, because there isn't as much counting involved as in Autumn or the Holly Sampler. Just amazing to look at!
Holly Sampler
Cardinals, holly, blue sky and crisp snow, this piece finishes a tiny 1-3/4 inches on the 40ct silk gauze. I warn you that this miniature stitching is ADDICTIVE! Offered as the chart with gauze.
Give Thanks
A new cross-stitch chart, Love & Joy will be joining this one in a few weeks! Finishing approx 5 x 8 on 28ct Summer Khaki linen, a contemporary lettering style gives this lots of interest. Overdyed flosses, this could be a 7 x 11 pillow piece on 10ct, or another 1-3/4 x 2-3/4 gauze Petite! Offered as the chart (no gauze included.)

Share FaithErica Michaels has released three inspirational pieces; Share Faith is one of them. Shown here as its trio in one piece, you can separate if need be! Offered in chart format, My Shade and Stitcher's Blessing aren't technically companions -- they just seem to all go together a little bit!

My ShadeFinishes approx 8 x 14 on 32ct, this is full of rich green and brown overdyeds, with touches of persimmon and gold. Lovely!

Stitcher's BlessingPick your favorite colors for this one... stitch it for friends... it belongs beside those favorite stitching chairs!
Humbly BornI remember this song from Christmas Programs when I was a little girl, and still love hearing it! (I think I was a sheep one year... in something like 2nd grade!) Erica Michaels takes this classic piece, and had added the stable full of the donkey, cow, sheep and dove... surrounded it with the Shining Star, and falling snowflakes all around. Just a really neat Christmas piece... this is offered as a single chart, and is worked on 36ct Summer Khaki Edinburgh Linen in Crescent Colours hand-dyed flosses. Finishing approx 6 x 9, she has the roof charted for Alternating Scotch Stitches for a little texture, but offers the alternate chart of regular crosses as well. I just like everything about this... and I can't wait till our shop model is finished and on display!!
Toil & Trouble Well, this is just the cutest little boiling cauldron -- spewing forth all sorts of scary things -- from it's mysterious batch of potion! Offered as a chart, it finishes approx 6 x 11 on 32ct, and is so full of charming critters, the colors are delightful, as well. I love looking at all the bugs... I love the whole thing!
We the People Erica Michaels has released two new designs -- this one and a fun Halloween piece. We the People features the words of the preamble to the US Constitution, stitched in luscious overdyeds of Bandana, Wavy Navy, Tarnished Gold, Maple Syrup and Oatmeal! Finishing approx 12 x 12 on a 30ct, it is simple and elegant! So nice for a family room or study! Offered in a leaflet format, this is a definite! A note from Linda Stolz: Some of you on this side of the "pond" may find the spelling of the word "defence" a bit odd; here in the United States we are used to seeing it spelled "defense." However, the word "defence" is actually the British spelling of the same word and as our founding fathers were British colonists, it's not surprising that this spelling was used. It's just one example of many (such as color vs. colour) small differences in British and American English.
Random Thoughts of SummerJoining Linda's other seasons, this collection of simple Summertime motifs is so effective together as a miniature sampling of heat and all-things-Summer! Offered as a leaflet, this finishes approx 4 x 6, and can be stitched in any number of colors. There are several special stitches in here... the borders and wheat stalks... just a little bit of extra interest!
The King's Pie Well, there aren't four and twenty blackbirds on here... but there are enough to let us know the pie must smell good! Linda's latest Punch Needle design, this is full of gorgeous, rich overdyed color of Amber, Sassy Brass, Brethren Blue, Mulberry and Sage... it uses a mixture of Crescent, Weeks and Gentle Arts!
Finishing a generous 5 x 7, the design is offered as a re-useable iron-on transfer ready for you to apply to the background fabric of your choice. I absolutely love all the swirls and movement in this! You can just see all the steam and busy wings stirring the air! Very eye-catching!
Snow Days Roundabout
I LOVE this set of Punch Needle designs! Joining the Seaside, Spring, and Autumn Roundabouts... comes a charming winter scene that celebrates bringing home the Christmas Tree!!! Linda has done these round punch needle designs so well, and packed them full of specialty threads and charming design details.
Her punch needle designs are offered as line drawings onto a RE-USEABLE iron-on transfer... so if you're an 'over-achieving-puncher' you can do her things more than once! (very affordable, too, compared to most other designs that offer the design pre-stamped for $12 to $18.) So very charming, very full of color and movement... this set of Roundabouts is top-notch in creativity, so unique!
Bountiful Harvest
Ohhhh, the brilliant Harvest Moon has settled atop your garden's harvest of corn, pumpkins and squash! One of Linda's newest punch needle designs, this includes not only the re-useable iron-on transfer for the punch needle (so if you screw it up... you can re-iron a new one and start again!), but a miniature transfer to create this same piece with the teeny-tiny knots that Teresa Layman has inspired all of us to do!
An impressive 5 x 6, the punched model is shown mounted onto Weeks Dye Works Wools for a really soft, warm-fuzzy effect. The miniature knotted version 2-1/2 x 3, is shown inside the package as a small sewing case. Luscious overdyed Weeks and Gentle Art flosses, this is stunning!
Random Thoughts of Autumn
Another of Erica Michaels' newest Fall 2006 releases, this is a really cool design that is monochromatic -- but done in one overdyed color -- so not really!!! Shown stitched on light as well as dark fabric... your thread count is up to you... and although the threads called for are either Crescent Colours Roasted Chestnut or Gentle Art's Maple Syrup... that choice is yours as well!
VERY well done... there are a few special stitches in the acorns to give them texture against the main design, which measures approx 3 x 4 or 5 x 6... depending on that fabric! Very tailored and classy, this is a definite! Get the leaflet, then decide your linen and floss colors! (I'm gonna bug her to do these for more seasons and holidays... cross your fingers!)
Love & Cherish The very classic wedding vows I spoke at my wedding... this is a simple piece to commemorate a special wedding or anniversary. Lots of color and fabric options, the months and alphabet are charted so you can personalize this to your family's needs!
Offered as a leaflet; there are no special stitches -- just a very classic design!
Seaside Roundabout
Wow... this imaginative piece is a show-stopper!!! Offered as a punch needle project, this charming piece could be a tiny rug that's framed for your lake house, a sun porch, or any place you want a reminder of the sea! Offered as the pattern presented as a re-useable iron-on transfer, Seaside is punched in a variety of DMC flosses, an overdyed and metallics, features a few clay button embellishments, and finishes a robust 7 inches in diameter. Like looking through a ship's portal window, the colors in this are just wonderful, the design is so unique, the shapes to flowing... can you tell that I just love it??
As a BONUS... EM has included a smaller transfer and complete instructions to stitch this in tiny French and Colonial knots! You'll remember the Teresa Layman miniatures??? This is a seaside version that is knotted on a piece of cotton fabric -- which has a slight mottling to the pattern. A summer companion to EM's Autumn Roundabout and Spring Roundabout... this is a definite!!!
Jack! Here's a personality for the season! Jack is punched on your choice of fabric, using the multi-use iron-on transfer included in this pattern. He finishes approx 3-1/2 x 4, and is full of fun color!
Gather the Honey This happy beeskep is punched and then finished with a penny-rug edge treatment, onto a flannel pillow. Along with the re-useable iron-on transfer of the hive, there is also a full-sized template for the wool tabs that frame the design. Weeks Dye Works wools have been featured, so you have lots of pretty choices that'll match the flosses used in the punching!

Glad Tidings StockingErica Michaels' fifth Christmas Stocking design... this is rich and elegant! Stitched in size 5 Perle Cottons, the model uses a Watercolors thread to give the hand-dyed color variation you see. The diamond-patterened lines in the background are stitched in Soft-Sheen Fyrewerks -- a metallic from Rainbow Gallery that isn't really too bright and shiny, but adds the elegance! Measuring a generous 12 x 20 when finished... the chart inside is almost full size! The cardinal on the smaller stocking is really a punch needle design... the transfer for it is included too!!!
Autumn Perch Wow, what a fun Fall design... offered three different ways... in case you can't make up your mind!!! A big, fat blackbird is perched on top of a checkerboard pumpkin... stitch it on 40ct in silks, 10ct with size 5 Perle cottons, or 30ct linen with overdyeds.
