One Nation from ByGone Stitches
Wow... this is a neat piece! It's a flag of the United States... but the stripes are made up of the names of the states, in the order in which they joined The Union! Offered as a chart, the stitch count on this piece is a generous 210 x 400 -- 13 x 25 on 32ct! Stitched in ONLY Crescent's Cupid, Blacksmith Blue and Antique Lace hand dyed colors, it's just stunning!

The stars are all Cross Stitches... but you could Satin Stitch them if you like. (As a bonus... there is a listing inside of the actual dates each state joined the Union -- kind of fun trivia to know!) A lovely piece for a family room, classroom, library or office!

Presenting a few of our pics and some musings about our Weekend with Barb and Alma from Blackbird Designs! The girls came last weekend... and enchanted our group with a special project, lots of stories, and lots of great ideas to make any of our needlework even more special than it already is. Mary-the-webmaster has made little slide shows to go with my words... so click that middle arrow below the pictures to make the little shows begin... click the middle icon again to stop a picture... (She told me all of you would *know that*... but I didn't!!!)

Our weekend was lovely! The shop was quieter this week, after everyone had gone home. We're re-stocking, straightening, and getting caught up -- all while missing the bustle! Enjoy our pics!

Peace on Earth from Dames of the Needle
Dames of the Needle has a new miniature hornbook ornament that finishes a mere 2-1/2 x 2-3/4. Both sides of the little paddle are stitched, and garnished with Just Another Button Company buttons... very simple and cute!

Although the hornbook is technically supposed to be displayed with the handle downwards... where one would hold it... to avoid having to drill holes in your paddle piece... you could always 'adapt' and hang it on the tree from the top hole in the handle! (We won't send the Cross Stitch Police after you!) Offered as the chart, stitched on 32ct linen in overdyeds... linen, hornbook and buttons (8 stars and 1 sheep) all available separately.

Stitched on Weeks Dye Works 30ct Straw linen in shades of DMC and overdyeds, she finishes approx 3 x 5. Cart features button-wheels, and that hanging star button could be a bat, spider, blackbird -- so many fun things from your button box stash will work!

Sarah Street - Faithfulness
from Little House Needleworks

An old-fashioned girl's sampler by Little House Needleworks, 'Let love and faithfulness never leave you.' Now, you CAN stitch in your own name... or the recipient's... or initials of a special grandmother or other family member... and you can change the date! (ALL in case you don't want someone else's name hanging in your house!!!)

Charming borders on this piece... each side is different! You could do a little Bargello in that bottom band, if you wanted to. Pretty floral motifs, a grand manor house, and rich over dyed colors throughout, Maple Syrup, Moss, Clay Pot, Sea Shelly, and Wild Berries (just some of them), this is a nice piece. Finishes approx 8 x 9-1/4 on 32ct, offered as the chart.

Tokens from Italy -- A Sampler for Lindy
from Giulia Punti Antichi

Giulia Manfredini designed this charming sampler for The Silver Needle! We spent the day with Giulia a few weeks ago, when SN took a group of 72 on a cruise to Italy and France. Standing on the waterfront in Liguria, Italy... the morning of our day together in Cinque Terra, Giulia presented us with her sampler, inspired by antique Italian motifs! Such a lovely day... and a pretty piece to remember it by.

Measuring 10 x 18 on 28ct Antique Tan linen, this is worked with a special color set of Valdani hand dyed Italian Flosses. There are two of rows of Cut and Drawn Threadwork, rows of geometric waves -- they remind me of the marble carvings on all the cathedrals we saw, and Roman Numerals -- not regular numbers!!! Giulia even added a picture to the back of the chart to SHOW you where we spent our awesome day together! So... we share a bit of our Cruise and trip to Italy with you!!!

No kidding... when Barb and Alma came for our class... our cushions were filled with lizard litter from the pet store!!! #4 In The Beautiful Finishing Series by Victoria Sampler, this leaflet offers patterns in two different colorways for the three different sizes of Biscornu cushions, and excellent assembly instructions for each! from Blackbird Designs

Blackbird has two new cross-stitch designs, Farm House is the 5th in the Anniversaries of the Heart series, and Hedgerow Birds is the latest Loose Feathers edition!

Farm House is another familial homestead that you personalize with a member of your family. This time, Alma has chosen the initials of her grandfather. As for the date, choose a birth date, wedding, anything special to you.

Hedgerow Birds is a neat sewing bag that is stitched in overdyeds on Week's 20ct Straw Linen! Different designs on both the front and back, it finishes into a 10 x 11-ish little pouch, featuring some pretty buttons for the closure, and gigantic ric-rac that has been tea-stained. Choose neat buttons from your family button box, or purchase those they did from your local fabric store. Neat, soft fabric... since it is 20ct, your stitches turn out 10 to the inch. Charming!

Both Farm House and Hedgerow Birds are offered as leaflets, and we have that 20ct for the bag, as well!

Quilters' Travel Companion - 11th Edition 2010-2012
The newest edition of this wonderful travel guide for any quilter - or lover of fabrics and stitching - has arrived in the shop. It is 640 pages in soft cover format that lists shops in all 50 states; shops in all the Canadian provinces; and, even shops in The Bahamas! Wow!! There are over 2050 featured shops and 450 of those have never been included in this publication before.

Each state has a map showing the location of the shops along the highway system and each location is cleverly numbered so that you know exactly which shop corresponds to which city on the map. The shops are listed alphabetically by city with their address and phone number. Some of the shops have advertisements included in the book and just a few do not. There are pages for each state's quilt shows, too!

This is book is mesmerizing! You can spend hours looking at the advertisements - seeing the location of shops on the maps - and reading about the various quilting festivals and exhibits throughout our country and Canada. If you are planning a road trip (or even if you plan on staying home and ordering by phone or the web) this is a must for all needleworkers!

Graffiti Scissors from Dovo
DOVO has sent us some new scissors -- Carbon Steel -- 5-inch embroidery style, that are the cutest things! (We had purchased the first and only 11 of these that they had made as prototypes, and featured them in our last e-mail newsletter. Promising an introduction into the permanent line... we're so excited that they came to us so quickly!!!) WONDERFUL cutting action, these are a 5-inch style that feature a white enameled finish decorated with child-like graffiti decoration! I said, in my initial e-letter, that they were TOO good to give to a child, but that any teacher or scissor collector would LOVE them!

Dovo is now embossing the metal blades with their logo, and Solingen 'license' logo -- which is a very nice, elegant touch! Very nice, very fun... I keep asking the difference between forged (those first 11) and carbon steel, and they keep telling me... only it never is anywhere in my head, when I need to find it! (know what I mean!?)

Flag Scissors from Dovo - click to see moreFlag Scissors from Dovo
More new scissors from DOVO... these are quite unique in size and decoration! A FULL 7-Inch scissor -- we've never had that size in ANYTHING before... these are a classic shear style with a 3-1/4 inch blade, smaller handles, and an American Stars and Stripes enamel finish! Flex them open to find the Dovo logo and Solingen Germany trademark... you know they're 'real!'

These are definitely a larger scissor. They open and close with a soft 'swoosh', and feel very substantial in your hands. The red on them is on the brighter side of red -- DMC 666, the navy is true. Yet another treat for the scissor collector, and any special sewing cases out there with a stars and stripes theme!!!

Presenting... our Weekend With Teresa Layman!!!
October 1st and 2nd, 2010

Join us to stitch and construct THIS little Gingerbread House!!! Teresa has sent us her class model to entice and inspire! Elegant die-cut doors and windows, trimmed with antique lace... we'll be stitching the topiary trees and garland above the door, and putting the little house together.

***You will learn everything you ever wanted to know (Or Knot!) about French, Colonial and Bullion Knots. Instead of spending 4 hours in a class doing them repeatedly... you'll learn to conquer them QUICKLY, and Get On With Things! Stitch them on your custom printed gingerbread fabric, and then BUILD your mousie's dream house!!! (Complete with antique lace curtains!!!) Our Gingerbread Mouse House measures 8 inches high and 3-1/2 inches in diameter. Class Space is Limited... as of Wednesday, June 2nd, we only had 29 spaces left! More details follow on our Class Page... there is also a PDF, so you can print it easily. Marie Suarez brings us this *exquisite* little pin keep design... you'll LOVE it! The kit contains a beautiful hand-carved bone medallion that measures approx 1-5/8 inches in diameter. You can see it... it takes up one entire side of the tiny round keep.

Next, you get a piece of linen banding -- it features your tiny heart stitching that wraps around the keep! We've never SEEN banding that is 7 stitches wide!!!!! Your initial is stitched on the included 40ct linen -- ALL 26 letters are charted for you inside their tiny vines. (not just the letters... you have 26 disks of floral initials in here!) My Pinkeep from Dessins DHC - click to see moreThere's felt, cardboard and batting in here, along with the finishing instructions, as well! You'll need to supply the linen and materials that makes the small case to store your precious keep, but those instructions are included, too.

The shop gals kind of went nuts over this piece when I brought it back from Market! It's so delicate, so unique, I think the medallion and banding are over-the-top cool, and it's a steal at $23!

Autumn at Hawk Run Hollow
from Carriage House
Carriage House's 5th set of scenes all around the village of Hawk Run Hollow is here! Celebrating Autumn, it covers the harvest season, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Joining Houses, Village, Shores and Christmas... Kathy says this is her last HRH set. We stood together in her booth at Market... all 5 of them were there on display, just stunning!

Just like all the rest, this piece features 12 squares of designs, that can be stitched individually or together. Every single panel is neat... it's kind of fun to look at the set of patterns and TRY top choose your favorites! Autumn is stitched in a different configuration than the rest, so linen has been ordered.

Charted for silks or DMC floss... overall finished size is approx 9 x 32 on 40ct, or 13 x 44 on 28ct! Offered as the chart, all other HRH charts are still available!

Moonlight Madness by Debbie Mumm from Mill Hill
Mill Hill has a new set of 6 Halloween bead kits that are bright, bold, funky, fresh, and too darn cute!!! Designed by Debbie Mumm, they finish approx 4-1/4 x 6-1/4 and are stitched on 14ct aida. Three are on bright apple/lime green, the other three on black... all are stitched with DMC flosses and smatterings of beads (more cross stitching than bead work.)

I just LOVE 'em! All are contemporary, only Witch Hazel has skinny legs... everybody else is very *rotund* in this set... and every one is cuter than the last! Complete kits include the chart, needles, flosses, fabric and beads. Very JAZZY!

Turtle Needlebook from Olde Colonial -- click to see moreTurtle and Elephant Needlebooks
from Olde Colonial
Olde Colonial Designs has 7 tiny designs in bitty kits... I don't think all of them are new... but I think I missed one of two of them before! Quite a charming collection, we have all of them on our Olde Colonial Pages.
But first, check out these fun little Turtle and Elephant Needlebooks! Bob (OC's Wood-Wiz!) has a new saw attachment TOY... so he's cut Pam a turtle-shaped thread palette for this kit! Bob's turtle measures approx 3-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches in size, and has 9 holes for threads. Pam has made a miniature sewing case for him... you can see him (the TURTLE!) peeking out of the case!

Elephant Needlebook from Olde Colonial -- click to see moreStitched on 32ct Light Mocha linen in greens, mauve, lavender and butterscotch flosses, the case features a needle page of green wool. A few special stitches in this, the whole thing finishes just a bit smaller than that darling wooden turtle! Complete kit contains the turtle palette, linen, flosses, bird charm, all the necessary instructions, interfacing, wool, ribbon, needle, floral lining fabric... you name it!

Bob and Pam have a matching Elephant Palette and Case as well... see it on our Olde Colonial page.

Memory Keeper from The Workbasket - click to see more Memory Keeper from The Workbasket
Workbasket has a wonderful design... a large, square envelope to hold friendship notes -- inspired from the early 1800's Netherlands custom of creating a lovely box to hold notes and poems. They have combined it with the French custom of Postal Art... stitched envelopes that were actually mailed through the post, using real stamps! (I've seen stitchers do this NOW... they stitch things and then MAIL them LOOSE, to get that ink postmark ON the needlework!!!)

This 12 x 12 envelope keeper is awesome! Stitched on Week's 35ct Parchment Linen, with dusky, softly faded shades of Belle Soie hand-dyed silks, the design is coded for DMC floss as well. When you fold the corners in and finish this, you'll have a lovely 2--sided envelope. The front design includes the 'stamp' (the bunny in the upper right-hand corner.) The Address -- To a Friend's House. Notice the Quaker motifs on the left-hand edge... when we turn over the piece, they are the tops to a heart! On the backside, you'll find the envelope flap, decorated with a valentine and smattering of antique buttons from your stash!

Offered as the chart, this is SO unique! I absolutely fell in LOVE with it when I saw it. So beautiful to hold in your hands, so different, and actually very functional -- if you have special cards and notes you really want to hang on to. Stitched on a 31 x 31 square of linen... you'll have some generous corners left-over for smaller ornaments or sewing cases. Such a pretty presentation for needlework!
