Part 3...

The Artwork of Bea Brock in Punch Needle!
What a wild and crazy trio of floral color and pizazz!!! Rug Hooking artist Bea Brock is presented in Punch Needle format -- and I am IN LOVE! Straight out of the Rug Hooking industry, we get a tiny tasting of her free-flowing and ultra-colorful designs -- in miniature!
These Punch Needle pieces are presented as the line drawing on weaver's cloth. Threads called for include MOSTLY Gentle Art Sampler Threads and DMC floss. Each pattern calls for one or two Caron Collection or Valdani, but most are mainstream fibers to find. Absolutely nothing else like this offered in our side of the industry... these finish approx 6 x 6. |
Schoolgirl Samplings from Blue Ribbon Designs!
Blue Ribbon has three new releases... this Sampler, Needlework Box and Smalls Set has caught my eye! The outside of the 6-ish inch box celebrates the 'land' while the inside celebrates the 'sea!' Goodness... all the sides of the octagonal box are stitched... both sides of all the little fobs and pieces... Land is stitched on a straw-colored linen, while Sea is stitched on a bluer-gray! How cool is that? Two different colors on everything! The verse on top reads; 'I've traveled across both sea and land to collect needlework treasures so exquisite and grand.' There are even little fish thread winders (available separately) that you can store inside of this! We have darling Charland sterling charms that would be neat for the sea theme in here... mermaids, tall ships, scallops, crabs, you name it! Anyway, this is offered in chart format with pages and pages of charts and assembly instructions, all is stitched in Gentle Art Sampler Threads -- easy on your budget! SO charming... what a great job Belinda has done for us with this!!!!! |
Love To One from Primitive Traditions
'Love to One, Friendship to Many, Good Will to All.' Primitive Traditions has a lovely new pastoral scene, stitched entirely in Crescent and Gentle art overdyeds. Offered as the chart, it measures 180x 90, worked completely in Cross Stitch with touches of a few straight stitches for effect.
The colors and content of the picture are what draws you to this... it is so quaint, so restful, it looks like a page from my calendar!!! |
Lazy Alphabet from La-D-Da La D Da has a few new pieces... this one simply lives up to its name... it's all over the place and fun to look at! Stitch count of 100 x 92, wouldn't it be a pretty pin cushion over one on 30ct?
Offered as the chart, it's stitched in DMCs of 918, 831, 310, 936 and 926! |
Puppies and More Puppies! from Puffin & CompanyPuffin & Co introduces more puppies to their line of needlework tools. Beautiful hand-made metal-art of brass, nickel and copper, each metal decoration is actually fashioned by artisans in a small Thailand village, where the project proceeds contribute to the health, education and welfare of their community.
Kitties, hearts, bees, lambs... all of them are really very well done. They adorn thread separators, rulers, needle and scissor minders... se what you think! |
Time Well Spent from Sampler Cove
This is an elegant study of hand-dyed gold silk on black. Stitched entiIs certainly the truth if you stitch this piece!!!! Presented by Sampler Cove, this is FULL, FULL of specialty stitches -- the kind you find in all the 18th century English Band Samplers. Exquisite. brilliant colors of reds, blues, purples, golds and greens... the top 3/5 of the piece is solid Queens, Double Running, Double Back, Detached Buttonhole, etc. If you like Darlene O'Steen's things... this is for YOU!!! Then we get Cut and Drawn Work, then Whitework, then Hardanger.
Pages and pages and pages and pages (well, 27 of them!) of diagrams and charts... to stitch this 21 x 8 explosion of creativity! Charted for silks or DMC... it is stunning! Very involved, very crisp, very planned and balanced... it *WILL* represent your time well spent! |
Hands To Work Sampler from The Victoria Sampler
A pretty kitchen garden... just like one Thea found in Olde Sturbridge Village, MA... stroll through the garden beginning at the bottom with the beds of carrots, radishes and cabbages. (there was a little frog in the radishes!) Next... the onions, squash, potatoes, strawberry patch, ... cauliflower, peas, parsnips, and lettuces are in there -- all between rows of specialty stitches. Orchard trees in the backyard, charming farm houses... there is so much color and detail in here, it is so much fun to look at!
Stitched on 28ct Confederate Gray Cashel Linen, the accessory pack, once again, is full of all sorts of hand-dyed silks and cottons! Measuring *a petite 4 x 7& (how charming is that!?) I love the fabric strips and wall hanging finishing idea for this! Simply a lovely piece -- for anyone who has a kitchen!!! Offered as the leaflet, with separate accs pack. |
Jane Philpott 1837: An Adam & Eve Sampler from Shakespeare's PeddlerTeresa's been sampler shopping... and found a pair of almost identical samplers stitched by two sisters in 1837. She bought the pair, and has been re-charting! Jane's is presented this year... Sarah's maybe next year! Stitched in Ramsgate, England, Jane was most likely a persnickety and tidy girl. Teresa's bits of musing that are included with the chart talk about Jane's stitching, her colors, and her snake -- that was evidentally not cross-stitched at all, but embroidered.
Pretty flowers, beautifully shaped and detailed trees there is a lot going on in here... but it quite an endearing piece! Charted for either silks for DMC, it's quite large, and measures approx 19-1/2 x 27 on 28ct... to 14 x 19 on 40! Very well done... we have the model in the shop, and it's stunning! |
Spring Pin Cushions from Prairie MoonPrairie Moon has Springtime-inspired vintage-designed paper boxes that hide your small stitched pin cushion 'egg!' Just like the Snowman, Santa and Halloween Boxes we have, these are fun paper boxes, trimmed with bits of rik-rak and glitter, they measure approx 3-3/4 x 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches.
Painted in pastels of blue, lavender, or green, each box comes with the inside chart. Stitched on 32ct, you probably have bits of anything neutral in your stash that will be perfect! Boxes are asst designs. |

Snow Kids and Ornament Stockings from SamSarah Design Studio
Sam Sarah has two new Christmas Stocking designs that are gigantically cute and full of personality! Very simple in design element, there are 4 in the set so far. They feature giant images of snowmen, ornament balls, Christmas candy, and reindeer noses! Offered in leaflet format, they are designed to be stitched on the new Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed 20ct linens. The linen itself, is very soft. Colors are *to dye for*, however, these look great on 18ct Natural, too, if you prefer a stiffer fabric to work with.
Anyway, you'll notice that each stocking looks 'overdyed.' THAT is the result of Caron Collection's Watercolors hand-dyed perle cotton. You'll have to work your stocking designs on a contour to achieve that awesome movement from the color variations in your thread... but it's worth the effort!!! Garnish each stocking with the appropriate name -- in scrabble ABC buttons -- how cute is that? We offer the leaflets, and linen cuts. Clay embellishments include just the stars, flakes, bells, etc. Letter squares by special order. Check out the other two... we carry their linen and threads as well! |
A Schoolroom Primer from Milady's Needle
This is SO CUTE! It's a 2-7/8 x 4-3/8 inch sampler stitched on 40ct vintage Buttercream Lakeside Linen, using Rainbow Gallery's Splendor Silk! Deep Navy, Burgandy, Browns and Butterscotch, the sampler is small and simple, quick to stitch. Once it's finished, simply mount to one side of the wooden hornbook paddle that is included in the complete kit.
Then, Gloria has included the lesson for the school day... the alphabet and numerals that you need to learn. She has included these on parchment paper, and printed them in four different fonts, so you can choose the one you like best. It mounts to the reverse side of the 4-3/4 x 4-3/4 hornbook. What a neat piece to have in your needlework display!!! Offered as the complete kit of chart, linen, silks, wooden hornbook, paper lesson, and finishing instructions. |

Mother of Pearl Pieces -- A Buckle, Daisy Thread Rings and Strawberry Thread Keep from Kelmscott Designs3 New natural shell options... the heart buckle is completely new, and opens up *so many* finishing and trimming options for sewing cases, cushions, boxes, chatelaines... it's more of a finishing piece than gadget. Comes as a set of 3 Buckles.
The Daisy Thread Rings are charming! Little bitty things, they're less than an inch in size, and are so pretty tucked inside sewing cases. 7 Included in their package. Next, is a Strawberry shaped Thread Keep. Similar in size to Kelmscott's Acorn Keep, these look neat simply trimmed with threads and laying on a shelf beside something you're working on! |
Twas the Night Ornaments from JBW Designs
Judy Whitman has finished her 12-piece set of Twas the Night Before Christmas designs... all at one time! (Card #1 was released last Fall... we now have cards #2, 3 and 4!!!) Following the verses of the famous poem about Santa's midnight visit, each tiny 2-1/2 inch square ornament features a bit of the verse, and a coordinating picture to tell the story.
A REAL cute set of small ornaments... each is garnished with a tiny embellishment (brass, clay, bell, pon-pom, etc) that is included with the card. Each card features 3 ornament designs. (JBW offers the free border design, in case you want to stitch this set of 12 as one larger sampling... details about that are on each card.) |

A New Designer for Us... The Tralala CollectionThis is a small collection of whimsical designs that comes to us from France. Something about them is endearing... all the skinny legs, all the big berries and flowers... the scalloped borders... I just love 'em! Offered in chart format, the instructions are written in French, with those recognizable DMC floss color numbers!
I believe most of them call for overdyed floss dyed by Tra La La. (I'm looking at the overdyed floss... it is a cotton... looks just like Gentle Art, Weeks or Crescent... and as all the designs are cute, and I'm sure you can find fun fabrics and threads already in your stash for these! I just *had to have them!* |
Jim Shore Angels of the Four Seasons from Mill HillMill Hill has introduced a set of 4 angels... designed by Jim Shore... each celebrating the bounties of her season. Offered in complete kit format, just like Mill Hill's Button & Bead Kits, these are stitched on 16ct Sage Aida, and feature lots of beaded details. Each angel finishes 6 x 6, and since she's on fabric... she can be finished in any number of ways. Brilliant colors, those trademark Jim Shore skirts, with all their splendor... this is a set full of flourishes of color! |
New Releases from Heart in Hand
Believe in Love is the definite 2010 theme for these new designs! The new Collector's Heart design includes the chart, 32ct linen, and clay key embellishment.
XOXO and Believe in Love are two Wee Ones -- small card charts that can be scattered with any number of cute little buttons or charms special to you! Believe finishes approx 1-1/2 x 6-1/2 on 32ct, while XOXO measures 3 x 3-ish. |
S is for Stitching
from The Sweetheart TreeThe next alphabet letter *S* celebrates what we all love the best -- Stitching! (and Sewing!... although I don't even *do* buttons!) Stitched on 28ct Summer Khaki Linen with DMC colors of ecru, 640, 642 and 644, this features little pearl and bead accents throughout.
A soft, mono-chromatic style... this would finish into a cute little cube stand-up box! You could even plop a puffy tuffet on top of the cube, and use it as a pin cushion!!! |
Premiers Flocons from Madame La FeeFirst Flakes... of Winter! As I am writing this, all the national news is reporting that every state in the USA has *some* snow on the ground... (they're looking really hard at Hawaii... I guess they have to climb a few volcanos and keep looking!) Anyway, it seems quite fitting to offer this chilly winter scene on our Just Arrived Page! All the charm of the first, fluffy, clean snowfall... and all the fun winter memories that come along with that fresh snow... the gray, stormy sky... I love that little snowman and his snowy arms!
Offered as a chart, this is 189 x 190 stitches, stitched on a mild gray fabric. (Just keep this picture in mind for later in the season... when all that snow is melting... and it's not so white and fresh anymore, and your dog comes inside with muddy paws!!!) |
Winter Wishes from Liberty Hill
Carolyn has painted a new paper box... and since half the country is buried under snow right now... it seems quite timely!!! That cozy log cabin perched on the snowy knoll, complete with resident snowman in the yard, opens to reveal a few surprises inside.
The 3-1/2 x 4-5/8 x 2 box bottom is lined with some Weeks Dye Works Deep Sea Houndstooth hand-dyed wool, and she has painted a tiny 1/2-inch star fob -- complete with jingle bell -- for your scissors. You'll find an angel painted on the 2-1/2 x 3-1/4 thread board that's tucked inside, too.
A charming little scissor and accessory box... I believe she's painted only 300 of these. |
Twist Portable Lamp from Daylight
The Daylight Company has a new lamp... a table-top model, that is REALLY NICE! Very portable, it weighs about 2 pounds, and when closed, measures approx 3-1/2 inches in diameter (it's round!!!) and stands approx 12 inches high. Flip open the shade... that's how the light turns on. Light is there, and directed DOWN at your work area. NOW, you have the additional option of tilting the shade to direct the light towards you, or away! The entire lamp even swivels on its small round base!
The daylight color-balanced light gives you better color-matching capabilities and reduces eye-strain. Daylight bulbs use 80% less energy than other fluorescents and incandescents, last longer, and feature low-heat technology... so neither you nor your needlework are 'cooking' under it!!! The bulb is protected behind a clear covering, and everything stays cool and happy! No magnifier option... just a great little lamp! |
More Madame la Fee!!!
This is a collection of fun charts -- direct from France! We have added even more... now we have 29 different offerings... treats for your stitching fingers! I love the motifs in these... the little hedgehog and squirrel in the Autumn pieces, all the Christmas pieces are charming... and the kitchen pieces are classy!
All designs are presented in French -- but thank goodness, DMC IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE for stitchers!!! We all recognize those familiar numbers!!! (Anchor floss conversions, too!) A few designs include button embellishments, one or two include a bit of ribbon. They *are* on the *pricey side* of charts... but, like you, I am a stitcher who cannot pass by the neatest stuff... just because the 'Stash Budget' isn't happy with the cost of the 'initial investment!'
Christmas, Autumn, Kitchen and Baby... I have no idea what they're stitched on... just know the stitch count. Pick something you like, and get busy!!! Just darling... enjoy them all!!! |
Sticks! from Mill HillMill Hill has taken the artwork of 'Sticks,' a Des Moines, IA, artist who specializes in making one-of-a-kind art and furniture items from fallen timber from their nearby areas. I am in LOVE!!! A new line of bead kits, worked on perforated paper (yes, we'll be stitching ours on 28ct linen!), these are Over-The-Top Charming, Colorful, Funky, Fresh, New, Young, Cool... GOTCHA! Finishing 7-1/4 x 7-1/4 each, they are offered as complete kits of the chart, hand-painted perforated paper, needles, beads and flosses.
If you want the frames, they WILL fit stitching done on 28ct. Just make sure to order the same number of frames as your kits! Just *look at* those cool dogs, and don't you just ooosh over that Cherish Family? The colors... everything just pops! We expect shipment this first week of January! |
Spring 2010 Button & Bead Kits from Mill HillMill Hill's new releases for Spring will be here in just a few days!!! Ice Cream Shoppe is an addition to the growing Christmas Village they have -- I think this is house #15 for that set! The two shells are very 'summery' and need to go with the Margarita, lakeside and Vacation kits we already have! The purse and shoe are bright and fresh -- they need a girl's dressing area, bath, or boutique shop setting! Last in the hydrangea wreath... something soft and pretty!
All are offered as complete kits of the chart, paper, beads and buttons and all the flosses. (A super deal, because there are a TON of different colors of everything in these!) |
Spring Bouquet Small Bead Kits from Mill HillMore little designs... perfect for frig magnets or pins to wear, package ties, or seasonal tree ornaments... these would be darling in a scrapbook. That baby shoe would be cute finished into a little birth announcement pillow, and that flamingo... I've seen them 'Flamingo' your front yard on TV!!! Always cute designs, these are kind of little companions to this year's larger set of Button & Bead kits. The coin purse goes with the high heels and handbag, the flamingo and shades go with the shells!
Always offered as complete kits, these finish approx 3 x 3, and come complete with the chart, flosses, paper and tons of beads. Cute! |
Owlscornu from Barbara Ana Designs! Part of the charm of these funky Barbara Ana biscornu designs is the challenge of actually pronouncing their NAMES! She has a endearing set of seasonal and 'personality' biscornus, and these little owls are the newest member of that family! We have pigs (Holy Mud!), Frogs, Dogs, ladybugs, fish, rabbits, sheep, even little crabs at the beach! That doesn't include the pilgrims, witches and their boots, Santa and some snowmen! These are very simple 4-directional designs.
Stitch them like normal. Then you join together a top and bottom piece with whip-stitches. Wierd in shape, these are a cinch to assemble... PROVEN BY how popular they have become!!! Over-the-top, stinking CUTE! Offered as a chart. |
The History of Thread from SajouOh my gosh... this is a LOVELY 6 x 8 softcover book -- 238 thick, glossy pages FULL of incredible, beautiful, vintage photos of EVERYTHING to do with antique 'Haberdashery.' Every page is stuffed with pictures of antique needlework thread cards, winders, spools, bobbins, advertisements, color cards, labels, needle packets... you name it.
The very BEST part of this book, however, is that while it is in French, it is ALSO IN ENGLISH!!! I can read everything!!!!!!!! So... I can now devour the history lessons delivered on each page that match the pictures! Every page has a history lesson about the products and packaging featured. So many shop advertisements and promotional cards and materials... so much information... I had absolutely no idea much of this existed in days gone by!!!
*Absolutely an Over-The-Top, Drop-Dead Gorgeous,* publication, I just want a cold, rainy afternoon, alone at home, a cup of hot tea... and THIS BOOK! Exquisite! A MUST for any needlework library! |
Silver Needle's 3-Inch Ruler Magnet Just something fun we'll have for a while, till they're gone... this is a bar magnet that has been painted with our shop name, and a little stitching cabin nestled in the woods! We had them done in honor of our Camp Wannasew Stitching Weekends this fall! The magnet is painted with 1-inch increments, so it really is a 3-inch measure. Your stitching board would love one of these! |

Christmas Balls from Marie Suarez by way of Dessins DHC
Here's a neat idea for tree ornaments! By Marie Suarez, these delightful little balls are actually 6 pieces of fabric joined together. She offers 3 different sizes of balls -- stitched on 32ct, the little one is only 2-1/2 inches in diameter, medium is 3 inches and the largest one is a little over 4 inches in size. Tiny holiday motifs stitched on each piece... they are darling! Offered as a chart, finishing instructions are offered in both French and English! Too cute! |
Fiber & Fabric Mania Travel Guide 2010-2011The newest edition of this cool travel-guide has arrived in the shop! A 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, 534 page softcover publication, this lists a couple thousand different knitting, quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, weaving, spinning, embroidery, and the *most important shops* -- Cross Stitch shops across the United States! Divided by states, each state has it's map with the Interstate Highway System diagrammed.
Shops are referenced on the main map -- so you can get a better idea of where they're located. Then, each shop is listed with address and phone number. Some have additional informational ads, some don't. Enough information is listed to input into your car's GPS, but you may have to call ahead for hours. Actually, a pretty cool book... you never know where you're going to wind up... and my goodness... you actually have a little time to find a good shop!!!! A MUST for your car... and a totally FUN stocking stuffer!!! |
Extra-Thin Tipped Scissors from DovoDovo has designed a new style of 3-1/2 inch scissor that is specifically designed for acute cutting -- such as Hardanger Embroidery. A familiar handle style we really like, notice the last centimeter of the blade... it is tapered quite a bit, so that the blade tips are very narrow... perfect for up-close cutting!
Dovo's lovely brushed stainless finish, the steel is strong and stable, and like all the rest, these 'swoosh' just like cutting butter! (What a messy idea!) Very sharp and thin tips... a lovely addition to the Dovo collection. |
Teresa Layman in Cross Stitch!!!Our favorite 'Knotty Gal' Teresa Layman is beginning to convert some of her miniature knotted rug designs into Cross Stitch, via leaflets!!! We are *SO EXCITED*... because her first 6 are HERE! Beautifully presented with a huge color pic on the front, she's chosen really good symbols -- to create contrast in the actual chart.
No looking at one of these and seeing nothing but symbols in all the same faded value. You can 'See the Design' in the chart! Charted predominantly with DMC flosses, there are a few hand-dyed tossed in here and there! What treats to stitch, click to see them all, and choose the one you want to do first! |
Introducing First Colony Tombstone Cupboard from Liberty Hill
Take a look at Liberty Hill's new miniature Limited Edition Halloween Stitching cupboard!!! The hand-painted pumpkin-colored cupboard has black accents of a tombstone angel, stars and a description of ***what lies inside!*** It measures approx 5 inches wide, by 7 inches high... the little front door curves to approx 9 inches high. Open the door to find your 'sewing smalls' tucked inside!
First Colony includes a black hanging thread board, 2 thread winders, an envelope containing needles, and a scissor fob -- all hand-painted by Liberty Hill's Carolyn... and she's doing only 300 sets! (Scissors shown in the pic are separate -- Kelmscott's Little Gems -- any black scissors would be happy reposing in here!!!) A small shelf completes the little cupboard, so that you can tuck tiny stitcheries in there!! *I think it's just the cutest thing!* |
Now taking late summer reservations for Sarah Elliott, The Sewing Chest of a Nantucket Sister Sailor from Primitive TraditionsA STUNNING piece... a sewing chest inspired by the diaries of women who went whaling with their husbands in the early 1800's. Called 'Sailing Sisters,' they endured years at sea away from their families accompanying their husbands on the long, arduous voyages of whale hunting around Cape Horn, into the South Pacific, around the Hawaiian Islands, up to Alaska and on to China! Although Sarah Elliott is a fictional lady... her chest is steeped in rich history of the day. Offered charts, Sarah's sewing chest consists of an exquisite harbor scene on the chest top -- you can see the checkerboard water and the tall ship. (Lovely blues, teals, bricks, greys and whitewashed sands...) It speaks of the sailor leaving his home, remembering family 'with a tear.' Next, there is a lining to the interior top of the chest -- 'Forget Me Not.' Each of the four interior sides features stitching -- the two longer sides feature pockets with stitched fronts that hold precious locks of hair or needlework tools. (I think one of our pics shows the pockets very well.) There are coordinating needle pages, a Biscornu pin cushion -- inspired by Sarah's Quaker upbringing -- a scissor fob and case -- all decorated with mermaids and seaside motifs to match the box top.
All the stitched pieces are assembled either into the accessories or actual lining and topping pieces for the handpainted 9 x 6 x 5-1/2 matte black box. Decorated with charming metal loop-rings on the sides, and a faux lock on the front, the top piece comes off. So you can 'fit' the interior of the box, and line both the top and underside of the lid. (There is even a piece of felt included to glue onto the underside of the box!) Notice the engraved Olde Colonial Brass Ruler -- 6 inches -- included, as well as the EXQUISITE scrimshaw piece -- A Busk Bookmark -- that is decorated with a scallop shell, ropes, tall ships, the sun, a mermaid, sea monsters, Nantucket baskets and a mariner's star. There is so much detail in here... that even on the scissor pocket piece, the three sailors all have different haircuts!!! (French Knots and little Straight Stitches!!!) There are finishing instructions throughout... I love the page telling the story of the piece... you get the placement guide for all the stitched pieces on the main linen cut, and since everything is stitched in DMC, Crescent Colours and Sampler Threads... your stash is waiting with the threads!!! Lots of chart enlargements, great finishing steps and hints... we are even treated to a bibliography of resource and historical reading about whaling!!! Package includes the charts and finishing instructions, the hand-painted chest, the scrimshaw piece (the size of a tongue depressor!), the engraved brass ruler, a sterling whale charm, button (an antique circa 1850 bone button!) and felt for the trunk bottom. Available separately is the 1/2 yard cut of Lakeside Linens 36ct Mourning Dove Linen, and any flosses you don't already own. This piece is simply stunning! I have a hard time describing its charm! The colors are what you'd expect from a seaside, distressed and weathered scenario... and together with the antiqued loops on either side of the trunk... it presents itself as a miniature, historic picture -- preserved through your needlework -- a glimpse into the past -- a glimpse into the life of another needlewoman. |
