    Part 4...

Witches Hollow from The Primitive Needle - click to see moreWitches Hollow
from The Primitive Needle

We've been enjoying an awesome Trunk Show in the shop from The Primitive Needle... this one, Witchess Hollow, is my absolute favorite of it all!!! This awesome piece is actually quite large, although nothing in it is! It is a CHARMING village scene (can scary and creepy be charming.. I think so!) that is stuffed full of dozens of delightful things!

You can study this piece for quite a while and still not discover all the cute things in it! That bat at the top is 'commanding!' Check out the haunted house up there in the middle, complete with resident ghost. The owl in the tree is different... there's a witch flying somewhere on her broom... even a kitty on HER broom, and I love that pumpkin on the stick down at the bottom.

Offered as the chart, this finishes an impressive 11 x 25 on 36ct, and is stitched in both Weeks and Gentle Art overdyeds. One of the best Halloween pieces we've come across... my trunk show is coming to an end... and I hate to send back the model! Click the pic to go to our PM page... lots of other fun things await!

Clay Pins by Butterfly Couture - click for more New Treats from Butterfly Couture!
Look at all these darling new pins we have!! We've pictured three of our 9 new things... click the pic to see all the rest! Handmade in France by *one* very busy artist... each little polymer clay-topped pin is handmade, and each is slightly different than the rest.

I've chosen the tiny mushrooms and carrots to show you, because they are 3-dimensional. The Frogs and lily pads are slices -- just like our other pin sets. Absolutely precious, they're too cute simply stuck into pretty cushions or embellishment toppers on ornaments and such.

Les Petits Ciseaux from Lili Soleil by way of Dessins DHC
Small Scissors... these are really pretty charts of embroidery scissors -- any and all of which -- I'd LOVE to actually have!!! Offered as a chart, the 7 pair can be stitched as one piece, or individually -- wouldn't they be neat as fronts of scissor cases??? Average stitch count of each one is approx 60 x 25.

The package does contain instructions for making small scissor cases, and threads used are regular DMC... what a fun set of charts! Printed with both French and English instructions.

Christmas in the Country from Plum Pudding Needleart - click for more Some Darling Things from Plum Pudding Needleart!
I've found some designs that I just love... Christmas and Fall... all offered as simple charts... check out the pumpkin!
  • A Time to Reap is stitched on 14 or 28ct fabric, DMC flosses, and finished into the stuffed pumpkin (pincushion?) with matching pinkeep ornament. The package even includes the cinnamon stick stem, wool for leaves and a bit of Spanish Moss! WAY cute!
  • Fall Fling is worked on any 14/28ct... again DMC flosses... a petite 57 stitch count... I just like it!
  • Gingerbread Junction Gift Bag -- what a cute idea! Finishing instructions are included... DMC colors, stitched area is only 40 x 50!
  • Signs of the Season and Christmas in the Country are two chart of smaller ornaments that can be jazzed up a bit with fun buttons and goodies in your stash!

  • Michael Powell Flowers in Glass Vase Bookmark -- click for a larger view Michael Powell Hearts in Glass Vase Bookmark -- click for a larger view Hearts and Flowers in Glass Vases from Michael Powell
I just love the artwork of Britain's Michael Powell... he generally does very involved European village scenes... but these two 'bookmark' pieces feature his same 'relaxed and contemporary' design flavor... and will take you a fraction of the time to stitch!

Very young, fresh, bright and cheerful... these are two small designs that finish a mere 1-3/4 x 7-1/2 inches on (the provided 14ct banding) or 28ct linen... if you have some in your stash.

I'm stitching the 4 European Bookmarks now... because I've been to all those places... but now have two more florals to add to my list! Hearts and Flowers in glass vases... classics! Offered as the chart with 14ct banding, and pre-sorted Anchor flosses.

Grey Feast with its Fob Kits from Fern Ridge - click to see more Grey Feast with its Fob from Fern Ridge
Fern Ridge has a pair of new needlecase and scissor fob designs... Grey Feast is one, and Salty Halloween is the other. Since Halloween is upon us, I thought I'd showcase the acorn instead! GRAY...not brown.. when I asked about that... I was treated to the answer that they were 'individual and creative' and gray was the preferred color! I can deal with that and respect it!!!!

This charming acorn sewing case is offered as a complete kit of Weeks Hand-dyeds wools -- in a gray tone -- with Gentle Art's Dried Thyme floss, DMC 645 and 3023 for cording, Rainbow Gallery's Dark Charcoal Alpaca wool, and a tiny pair of Kelmscott's stainless scissors! Construct the acorn case, and then, make the matching beaded scissor fob... with all that stunning beaded fringe! A very cute set, a very unexpected color... quite classy!

Christmas Wishes from Dimples Designs - click to see moreChristmas Wishes from Dimples Designs
The Silver Needle is proud to debut Terrence Nolan's newest design for Dimples Designs! Christmas Wishes is Terrence's adaptation of a turn-of-the-century Christmas Card, and it is STUNNING! With a stitch count of 359 x 232... and a DMC color listing of 100 different colors.. it is a companion to Christmas Kisses... and just as intricately awesome! Santa is here... wrapping his arms around all his dolls and toys.. for his favorite girls and boys. He's keeping them safe and away from the blowing snow, because it's 'delivery night' you know...!

Intense, bold colors, SOLID stitching, I look at this chart, and know I'll do better enjoying the cover photograph!!! This, as with Christmas Kisses, is not for the weak-of-stitcher!!! Absolutely breathtaking... this is offered in either chart format, or complete kit of 22ct Hardanger with all 100 threads pre-sorted and organized on numbered palettes for you! (Like last year's kit -- almost too pretty to open and use!!!) Just Lovely... Christmas IS just around the corner, you know!!!

The Sailor's Wife from The Sampler Company -- click to see moreThe Sailor's Wife
    from The Sampler Company
Brenda Keyes has a new sampler that has enchanted us! Presented through the eyes of a sailor's wife... this is her dedication to her sailor while he is away at sea. Even King Neptune is there in the waves!!!

Charming in shape, the stitch count for this piece measures 422 x 128m which translates to a whopping 26 x 8 over two on 32ct! (It's as big as the fish he caught!) Executed in crosses with DMC floss, there are no quarter or half stitches... just awesome colors and pretty motifs.

We've been getting our shop models stitched over one on 25ct -- they DO use just the Half-Stitch -- and our model for this will 'weigh-in' at 17 x 5! 'For my dearest love he who works upon the sea On the waves that blow wild and free He splices the ropes and he mends the sails While southward he rolls to the home of the whale.'
    Offered as the chart.

Charland has two new brushed pewter mini-bellpull hanging hardware pieces... seems like we're crossing seasons and holidays here... with angels and bats at the same time!

The Halloween Bat is designed to hold fabrics up to 2-3/4 inches in width, while the Angel Wings are smaller, with a 2-inch bar. Just the topper piece, you might need to add a tassel or weight to the end of your piece, depending on length. Those angel wings look just like a handlebar mustache to me... what do you think???
Be sure to check out Charland's other great new pieces, shown on her page.

  • Battledore -- An English Hornbook from Dessins - click to see moreBattledore -- An English Hornbook from Dessins DHC
This is a charming design -- a learning tool -- used in France and then England in the late 1700's. Dessins has re-created the small racket shape of hornbooks and battledores, and added the 'pages' that battledores featured, to bring us this delightful little story board/book! Full of alphabets, short lists of words and sounds, some out-of-order letters, and a little fable or story, this pack includes the charts for all, assembly instructions, and the 4-1/8 x 9 x 1/8 paddle!

Stitched on 32ct, it uses DMC flosses, and is plain cross stitch. Our story is about 'The Boy and the Dog.' 'Here is Rex, true friend of John. He enjoys fetching the ball or stick that John throws far away. He wags his tail when he is happy. He will bark but he will not bite.' Your Battledore pages are mounted to the front of the paddle, and open like a trifold. So unique! Offered as the charts with paddle... directly from France!!

Pere Noel - A Santa Scissor Keeper and Pin Holder from Dessins - click to see morePere Noel - A Santa Scissor Keeper and Pin Holder
    from Dessins DHC
THIS is darling! An Olde-Worlde Santa, stitched over one thread on 32ct, he is two-sided, and has a top and bottom! Stitched with DMC flosses, the charts are clear, and instructions to assemble (presented in both French and English) include actual finishing photos. Santa is approx 3 x 5. He stores your scissors inside... they are tied to that red ribbon coming out of the top.

On Santa's back... is his sack full of 'toys' -- a darling set of Butterfly Couture hand-made clay-topped Christmas pins! The little 'basket' is a thimble sized piece that is stitched over two threads, cut out, stuffed and attached to the back. Pins stick in like a pin cushion.

This is precious! It is so unique, on the large side for an ornament... I think it should hang on your tree every year anyway! What a fantastic way to hide scissors, pins, and maybe even a few needles!!!!!! CHARMING!!! Presented in chart format with Christmas Pins.

Punched in Weeks overdyed flosses, it finishes approx 4-1/2 x 5, and is actually a super-easy piece to punch! Not a lot of small areas... the overdyeds do the work for you! Make sure to see her new Santa, too, both are offered as the design stamped onto the weaver's cloth.

Ellen Chester has been busy... she's created this charming etui to store all sorts of fun tools of your trade! She adapted her verse from a song published in a sewing primer from 1886! 'Come haste, my fair maiden, prepare for your work, Let not in your person untidiness lurk, See that scissors are sharp and needles are new, Your tools all in order, so well will you do.'

Kelmscott bluebell thread rings are sewn in place, there is a Mother-of-Pearl ruler area... the whole thing is just charming! ABC Quick Start Boards from In the Company of Friends - click for more ABC Quick Start Boards
from In the Company of Friends

In the Company of Friends has released a number of new things... and these Quick Start Boards are one of my favorites! HEAVY WEIGHT illustration or mat board, each piece in their collection is printed with photographs of actual antique needlework. They make thread winders, book plates, thread palettes, all sorts of things, so perusing their page of items is really a treat!

Anyway, this set of Quick Start Boards is fun because it is so colorful, and looks so cool tucked into one of your sewing cases! Take a board, line it up against the corner of your fabric, and it automatically measures you IN and DOWN 2, 3, or 4 inches to begin your work. Most everything in this line makes a really classy, small, token gift... so take a look at all the rest! We also have new palettes, winders and a bookplate.

You either love these... of they do absolutely nothing for you! If the latter is the case... just scroll to the next thing on my pages! I personally LOVE these Quaker medley pieces... although I doubt that I have the personal patience to actually stitch one!!! The designers tell us this piece hides initials of several friends throughout the design... I look for them... and I can find them!

Next, they offer that the design is actually split into 4 different sections -- the seasons -- and in each -- you will find that's friend's initials -- their birthday season!!! Wow... I know baking a cake would be quicker... but I'd love my birthdate being remembered like this!!! Just lovely, offered as a chart, the stitch count for this is 440 x 250, which translates to 27-1/2 x 16 on 32ct over two. On 40ct... you'd use 5 skeins of Crescent's Belle Soie Silk... so get more if you choose a linen larger than 40! Exquisite!

Absolutely charming... these are surprisingly light in finished weight, and are FULL of color, texture and interest! Nothing hard, no advanced beading techniques... they are offered in lots of seasonal designs! We have models of all of them in the shop... and just can't keep our fingers off of them! Aren't these fun and cheerful? Zecca has charming glass vials -- 3/4 inch in diameter, and 3 inches long, including the cap -- to store your precious needles, pins, and special beads.

Sporting screw-off tops, each is a one-of-a-kind tiny bit of handmade art, so each is different from the last. Too bulky to store in a flat sewing case, I'd put them inside sewing boxes, or maybe perch one on your kitchen windowsill... so you have a pretty place that stores a needle... and you can always find one when you need it!

Popular in the Victorian era, as actual pin storage pieces, these are stitched on 32ct linen in Sampler Threads overdyed flosses. The Strawberry Cube features the verse 'Sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam, and sup upon strawberries, sugar and cream.

The Quaker Motif cube features 5 tiny designs, and both have one side reserved for 100 glass-headed straight pins. (She's suggested regular Dritz brand from the fabric store.) Petite creations, each cube finished approx 1-5/8 inches in size... and is so endearing perched in a needlework shadowbox, or hanging as a Christmas ornament! Presented in chart form with detailed assembly instructions.

Quakers and Quilts from Rosewood Manor - click to see more Quakers and Quilts from Rosewood Manor
This is a really cool 3-part piece... I didn't realize its versatility, till I saw the monochromatic Quaker half pictured on the booklet's back cover. Look carefully... the top third is a simple alphabet which would be pretty all by itself. Next, add the row of Quaker motifs. Stunning... you even have enough information in the charts to duplicate the missing tops in case you want just that row! Finally, finish off with the intricate row of quilt blocks!

Each one of those in incredible just by itself... but put them together, and wow! One of Karen's trademarks is all her extra 'Bonus Charts' scattered throughout her patterns, this one being no different. You get smaller Quaker samplers, more little borders, and all sorts of project ideas for needlecases, etc. The entire piece measures 19 x 10 on 32ct, so its quite generous in size. Just stunning!

Rosewood Manor has three new releases... make sure to see all three!

Town & Country Sampler from The Sampler Company - click for moreTown & Country Sampler from The Sampler Company
We've received 10 new charts by Brenda Keyes... some aren't actually new to her collection...but they are to ours... so that counts as NEW!

Town & Country, the one featured here, reminds me of so many of her others that have been customer favorites in the shop. Scattered with traditional sampler motifs all stitched in rich rusts, cinnamons, chestnuts, teals and moss greens, we have a couple of our shop models stitched over one thread -- with a 1/2 cross stitch - as she recommends. They are STUNNING... and that simple 1/2 stitch gives you so much more interest than a regular cross stitch -- believe it or not! (and it takes LESS time!)

'If all mankind would live in mutual love, this world would much resemble that above.' Finishes approx 9 x 12 over one on 25ct (which is actually a breeze to see!!!).

Punch a colorful pair of winter snowmen... I don't know which of these I like better... so I'd opt for both! Offered as line drawings, you'll need to transfer them onto your weavers cloth to punch. Flosses are good 'ole DMC, making these slightly more affordable to punch than lots of other designs, and each is embellished with a few Just Another Button Company clay pieces.

Very bright and cheerful, Juggling finishes approx 4 x 5, while Peppermint punches approx 4 x 4. So Cute!

Mighty Bright Floor Lamp The Mighty Bright Floor Lamp
Well... this is quite the little gem!!! Even before I tell you how great it is... you need to know its incredibly affordable price -- only $105.00!!!! A new floor-standing magnifying lamp, brought to us by the Mighty Bright people... this lamp features 12 teeny-weeny LED lights that surround a 5-inch glass (note glass -- vs plastic) 2X magnifying lens. The lens features a small 5X bi-focal area, for viewing extra-small stuff!!! It is powerful, very lightweight (I bet it isn't even 8 pounds), and so simple!

Designed to be plugged into the wall, 6-foot AC power cord included, ***OR run on 3 size D batteries*** it has a flexible gooseneck so you can direct the light anywhere you want it.
Mighty Bright Floor LampIt stands a mere 53 inches high, (27 inches is the stick, gooseneck is 18 inches, weighted base), so when you bend the neck, it really stands approx 36 inches high. It weighs almost nothing, so it BEGS to travel with you! It comes in a box that is only 16 x 16 x 5 inches -- so it ships to you as a regular-weight item!! (No oversize-box shipping charges!)

If you're enjoying our teeny personal Mighty Bright Lights -- the $5.99 ones, or the $30 clip-on lights, you'll understand the intensity of the LED lights this piece offers! They are astonishing! The LED bulbs never need replacing, either! Next to my incandescent desk lamp, the light from this looks 'purple-ish' to me. It is VERY bright directly in the area that my needlework fabric is... and since the lights are in the lens casing... there is no light glare that will show up on the TV screen across a dark room!

Lots of info here... remember the key info; Small and simple; lightweight, battery or wall powered, LED bulbs, 5-inch glass lens. It is smaller than the Daylight floor lamps... so don't expect a huge fixture. It is fabulous, and you'll LOVE it! Definitely a Definite!!!!! (you might want two... because when your family sees it, it's going to 'disappear!')

Look at this plump little Santa! Doesn't he look like he's made from a whiskey barrel??? (or an eggplant, or even an egg???!) I think he's precious, and he's even giving his reindeer a present!

All of Teresa's designs come pre-stamped onto the weaver's cloth, and are punched with Weeks Dye Works flosses. Finishing approx 4 x 5, this one will look great finished into a pillow... kind of 'frame it' with fabric to reach a decent pillow size... the colors are great!

Stoney Creek brings us 5 different sets of designs, and even though each is pictured on a specific color of terry -- YOU CAN ALWAYS CHOOSE ANOTHER COLOR! The puppy would be precious on blue, the stars on yellow, the ducks on green... you get the idea.

The bibs are approx 10 x 12, the towels measure approx 30 x 30. Both feature a woven-in 14ct aida weave for cross stitch. Just darling... your precious little one may not know how cute they look in these... but you'll have stitched a memory that Mom will save for years to come! Offered as charts, the bibs and towels are offered separately.

    from X's & Oh's
For the past 7 years, I have dearly loved this design... always looking at it at Market... never buying... because the pic on the leaflet cover doesn't do it justice. Well this year... X's and Oh's sent me home with its stitched model... along with 3 more scenes and their 2009 Calendar designs. I am enchanted!!!

Offered as a leaflet, Slicker Parade reminds me of the old Morton Salt ads when I was little. That charming row of little ones, blowing away in the wind, barely covered by colorful umbrellas! Presented in leaflet format, the piece finishes approx 7-1/2 x 20 on 32ct... and sad to say... it BEGS to be stitched on a navy blue fabric... that is so hard to see, regardless of the count! Tons of colors used, lots of blended needle combinations, this is not for the weak-of-stitcher! But... I love it anyway! Maybe we can find a little lighter fabric for you... Well... these are *the coolest* LITTLE lights!!! Brought to us by the Mighty Bright people, these are tiny LED lights that measure only 1/2 an inch thick, an inch wide, and a whopping 1-3/4 inches long!

They weigh an ounce, they clip onto a book, papers, whatever, and have a tiny light that actually swivels to be directed down (like into a book, or to see the sidewalk) or out! Available in 5 different colors -- silver, purple, blue, apple green or rosy pink -- press that big button, and you'll get the brightest little light -- it's absolutely unbelievable!

One belongs in your stitching bag, another in your purse, another in the car for maps, another beside your bed to read with, or just use as a tiny night light, another to clip to the phone book... are you getting the picture??? They are cute and very powerful little things! The best part, is that they are only $5.99 each!
WAY TOO CUTE, NEAT, AND COOL!

Ark Sampler from The Stitching Shed -- click to see a larger viewArk Sampler
    from The Stitching Shed

All the way from England, we are charmed to present a cheerful and perky Noah's Ark piece that is bursting at the seams with animals and happiness! In her light and whimsical style, the colors are clear and pretty, you just can't help yourself... you smile!

The Ark sampler features the alphabet below the ark, so you can include that, or personalize, using the letters as your template to announce a special baby arrival... ! Bless This House is another new release... a perfect housewarming gift! Offered as the chart, Ark finishes approx 7 x 11 on 28ct.

A Quaker Christmas Offered by ByGone Stitches -- click to see moreA Quaker Christmas from ByGone Stitches
Offered by ByGone Stitches, we are treated to this decidedly intricate Quaker-inspired spot motif sampler... with a bit of Christmas tossed in! Available in chart format, the whole piece measures approx 20 x 13 on 32ct, and is worked in only three colors of overdyed threads.

Now... study this a bit. The chart is very clearly done... you'll probably want to highlight the three different colors with highlighters. Next... realize that this has potential to be a family sampler... by simply changing the JOY, PEACE, and NOEL words and various scattered letters to those that have significance in your family. It doesn't have to be 'Christmas' if that's not a goal in your decorating scheme, or stitching schedule!

The design is awesome -- such great balance and symmetry -- especially for a spot-motif piece -- it's just elegant! As is, it calls for 20 skeins of Crescent's Balsam Fir, 2 skeins of Cupid and 1 of Ye Old Gold. Look at your decor, choosing your favorite green, a touch of red and gold... and order enough thread at the onset to finish this! All crosses, offered as the chart... this is stunning!
Sweet Honey from Shepherd's Bush -- click to see lots more
    Announcing: The Town Square!
    from Forty Cross Stitch Designers

A darling set of 40 tiny shops, businesses and churches that together, make up an awesome Town Square and Village!!! A collaboration between different designers and vendors at our Summer 2006 Wholesale Needlework Market... everyone got together, and designed a particular building as part of the overall village.

Sandie's Sweet Shop I can't remember off the top of my head who did what... but I do remember that Shepherd's Bush had a Honey Shop, Mosey 'n Me did the bookstore, Crescent Colours had the saloon, Lizzie Kate did the Candy Shop, Sweetheart Tree had a Sweet-shop... there is a knitting shop, quilt shop, frame shop (East Side Moulding did that one!), a general store, haberdashery, bakery, a button shop -- done by Just Another Button Co!. The town hall, jail, fire station... Bent Creek did the fish shop... I could go on and on!

Anyway, offered as a set of 'freebie cross stitch charts' to those shops attending the show... Silver Needle is following Elegant Stitch's idea of loading all of these charts onto one CD for you... so you can have them all in one place, and print any or all... as many times as you wish! (We weren't sure our copier was up to all those thousands of copies anyhow... and nobody jumped up to baby-sit it while they ran!)
    Cross Stitch Shop
Because of the time and effort involved in producing the set and duplicating the CDs, we have them available for $5.00 each... with a Silver Needle purchase. No limit to the number of CDs... good inexpensive stitcher surprises here! Ready to print in .jpg format... this is such a treat!

Several of the designers had special embellishments on their houses... we have most all of it, so when you get your Village, and decide which you're going to stitch... you can order any necessary fabrics, threads, buttons and charms from us! Sorry we don't have a composite pic of the whole Village... nobody had stitched one for the show... but enjoy several of the individual pics we do have!

Don't miss the special sterling that has been released for the Shepherd's Bush and Bent Creek sections!
