The Portable Crafter -- Cross Stitchfrom Liz Turner Diehl Here's a fun little book by Liz Turner Diehl that offers 17 small designs that each feature varying aspects of cross stitch technique! Liz has several large antique garden pieces... this book offers a miniature version of an English Knot Garden, and another showcased inside an Olde Colonial Clock we carry. There are a couple show-stopping beaded acorns in here with touches of Stumpwork on them.
Next is a dice pouch design (is Bunko big in your area like it is in Oklahoma?), and a detailed King of Spades chart for a card or poker chip box top, and a matching Queen of Hearts for a bridge box top. She has done a very simple and lacy Hardanger book marker, and a few other fun little things in here. Cute little book, it's hardcover and is just 6 x 6-ish in size. 96 Pages, it's a great little deal! Note: expect a January or February 2008 delivery on this item.

Mr. McGregor's GardenBunnies, Carrots, Blue Birds, Flowers and Greens... all tucked into Mr McGregor's organized and intriguing garden-in-the-round! Running rabbits... all chasing round and round... all the carrots to savor... all the colorful flowers and vegetables... everything is tucked into this 9-inch circular garden! Stitched on 28ct natural linen in colorful shades of Madeira flosses and metallics, it features lots of back and quarter stitches, simply because so much of the piece is 'on the angle.' Liz has designed all those running rabbits... stitched in every angle... but not one is distorted; all of this design is balanced and neatly in place! Pretty springtime colors, lots of small details, the areas of greenery are stitched with Leaf and Plait Stitches. Offered as a complete kit of Madeira flosses and metallics, linen, and beads -- for the bunny tails!

Fall Festival in a Beaded Knot Garden
One of Liz Turner Diehl's newest garden designs, your garden is full of late blooming flowers and grasses! Jewel tones of purples, rusts scarlet and gold -- the greens in this piece -- both the beads and threads are awesome! Liz tells us about the herbs she has planted, and all the flowers that are the dazzling garden gifts of the Fall season. This little garden is very organized... every plant and herb in it's place! Laced all over with decorative stitches, the beads are scattered everywhere as well! Lots of detail, all balanced in a geometric pattern, this is offered as the complete kit of 28ct Natural Linen, Madeira flosses, and metallics, and lots of glass seed beads of sparkly golden crystal and rich greens. Finishes approx 7-1/2 inches square.

Point of Sail from Liz Turner Diehl
Wow... this is a stunning piece for a yacht-lover!!!!! You're probably not 'pursuing pirates into the shallow waters of the Low Countries' in this little vessel... but it's fun to dream a little! Liz Turner Diehl presents a wonderfully interesting piece -- that is intimidating -- until you read the instructions! Stitching approx 5 inches square on 25ct Pewter Gray Lugana, the border is full of pretty, lacy special stitches of white to remind one sailors knots of old. Regular cross stitches on the yacht, sun and corner motifs... the sails are regular crosses, too -- only they are separate pieces!
Included in the complete kit, along with all the charts, Madeira cottons and metallics and beads, is a piece of 32ct Polysil -- a silk gauze-type material. The sails are cross stitched on the gauze, then, you buttonhole stitch the provided wire around the edges... take a big gulp, hold your breath, KEEP your eyes OPEN and cut out your tiny 2-inch sails. They're like little wired ribbons... and now you actually tack them onto the yacht! Pretty summery-nautical red, white, yellows and blues. Liz came and taught at Silver Needle last summer, and taught us her Stumpwork techniques. Very intimidating, but when broken down into actual stitching elements, VERY basic and easy! You can do this!

Hannah's Hummingbird Knot Garden One of Liz Turner Diehl's newest gardens... let me read you bits from her design description... I condensed it a bit. "The hummingbirds need an entire habitat. Fresh water for drinking and bathing, shade to perch, sun to bask. Willow and Eucalyptus for nesting materials, and of course, lovely nectar filled red blossoms. Since hummers, like most birds, have virtually no sense of smell, the flowers that attract them in this garden are Coral Bells, Fuschia, Impatiens, Hosta, Bee Balm and Petunias. The black wrought iron posts holding the glass blown red strawberry feeders are perfect sanctions to host the Trumpet Creeper vines. The little hummers love their gorgeous colorful habitat!"
Offered as a complete kit of 28ct Natural Linen, Madeira flosses and metallics, this finishes approx 10 x 10, and is loaded with Cup, Mosaic, Woven Wheel, Smyrna, Waffle and Cross Stitches. It's loaded with garden greens, and those brilliant reds! Be sure to click the image at right... the little one just doesn't do this justice!

The gas street lights feature touches of metallic to twinkle on the flowers below... your garden is ready for its evening party!
Offered as a complete kit, this is stitched on 18ct Natural Linen in shades of Madeira brand flosses and metallics. Special stitches included for a bit of texture include Waffle, Algerian Eye, Double Herringbone, Star, Spiders, and Maltese Crosses. Sophie's Springtime Alphabet Knot GardenWhat a delightfully balanced garden of floral letters, complete with the 'stone wall' and 'brick pathway!' Designed by Liz Turner Diehl (make sure you see all her other lavish garden designs), this is offered as a complete kit containing the 28ct Flax Cashel Linen, 10 pages of great stitch diagrams and charts, a luscious collection of Madeira brand flosses, pastel pink, yellow and lavender opalescent metallic blending filaments, glass seed beads, and two cards of Colorwash hand painted Japanese silk in a muted lavender-rose-green colorway.
The garden itself features beaded letters -- all rich green glass beads -- surrounded by bits of tiny florals. There are Smyrna Crosses in here, Fly Stitches, a wonderful Lattice Stitched border, Star Stitches, Long Legged Crosses and lots of tiny Spider Web stitches! Worked on the Flax linen, this finishes approx 10 x 10, and has room in the bottom row of garden sections to add or change initials and dates to commemorate a birthday, new house, anything you want! Very delicate and balanced!

17th Century German GardenAnother in Liz's collection of historic gardens... this is patterned after traditional German gardens. I asked her what made this 'German' vs any other garden... and I got quite a history lesson on WHO and WHAT and WHY... which is always included in the pattern instructions of these gardens! Offered as a complete kit, Liz's gardens are all stuffed FULL of special stitches for interest and texture in the various gardens. She uses Madeira threads, exclusively, and since we don't have those widely available in the US... it's something different and unique! (It makes the kits a great value, as well, because if you had to manually track down all these materials... the flowers in that garden of yours would be dead by now!!!) Lots of cool metallics, beads and flosses... these gardens are exquisite when stitched! Make sure to see the rest of them... I think there are almost 12...

Greenhouse Winter Garden
The Winter design in this seasonal set of green house and garden estates, this joins the Cider House, which is the autumn garden! The complete kit contains 28ct natural linen, tons of Madeira brand threads -- some of it is opalescent metallic -- Colorwash overdyed silks, a reel of silver metallic, and quite a few glass crystals. There are no conversions in the kit to DMC, so it includes entire packages of all the threads needed! The 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 inch sampler is stuffed full of easy special stitches to add texture, and the instructions are very complete! There is even an overall chart, and then 4 pages of individual sections. The colors are rich and very icy!

Cider House Garden
This is a delightfully detailed fall farm and garden sampler, full of special stitches, and a few bead touches! Finishing approx 7 x 9 on 28ct Natural linen, it's full of fall colors in flosses, and features two colors of Colorwash Silk -- an overdyed silk thread
-- along with cinnamon Mill Hill beads. There are so many tiny details in the design... pumpkins, flowers and bushes, quilts, just delightful! The chart is enlarged, and really well done, along with the stitch diagrams, which include Spider Stitch, Scotch and Reversed Scotch, Herringbone, some oblong and tied crosses. You have two stitching options: the complete kit, or simply the chart. The complete
kit includes the linen, beads, two cards of the Colorwash Silk, and 17 packages of Madeira floss -- from Germany -- and is definitely a good buy! I'm ready to go outside and pick apples and pumpkins!!!
