Angie, our punchneedle specialist The Silver Needle

Russian Punch Needle Embroidery
What's old is new again!!! Dating back to the 17th Century, Punch Needle has been around forever, it seems! It is simply a method of punching fabric and leaving a loop of thread on the 'backside' which, when you're finished, becomes the front of your creation! It is JUST THE MOST FUN to do! Each of the designs featured below are punched with the Igolochkoy brand of punch needles. Patterns and needles are available separately, so one set of needles should last you through years and years of patterns!!!

Most designs are available as pattern packs... the color picture, pattern instructions and color keys -- along with the necessary ground fabric with the line-drawn design already on it. The Igolochkoy needles come with general Punch Needle Embroidery instructions, the necessary loop gauges and needle threaders, as well as needle tip guards and even storage tubes for them! You'll also need a nice, sharp pair of scissors, and a plastic embroidery hoop -- the kind with a special lip on one of the rings. (Don't worry, we have all of it!!!)

There is a little technique involved in getting 'good loops', that sort of thing... and you actually do this stitching from the backside! The punch needle package has a some good diagrams inside to help... including a Trouble Shooting column! Lots and Lots of fun, The Silver Needle will be having classes in this, (check the class schedule for dates!) and an on-site demo while you're in shopping is always fun for us to offer! *Custom Classes* are available in Punch Needle Embroidery for groups of four or more! Call to discuss dates and arrangements!

A Note about Punch Needle Patterns...
Some come with the design already printed onto your weaver's cloth base fabric... others don't. I've made sure to tell you that information somewhere on that particular designer's page, or in the specific pattern words. If you are a beginner, or simply a puncher that wants to DIVE RIGHT IN the minute you open your package... look for the designs that come pre-printed! Tracing isn't hard... it's just sometimes a frustrating and unexpected surprise!

Neat Punchneedle Designs
from Threads That Bind

A beautifully sophisticated selection of county primitives, by artist Shawn Williams, these are worth a second look... and definitely deserve your needle's attention! Offered as the design stamped onto the weavers cloth... each is punched in both Weeks and Gentle Art overdyeds.

Threads That Bind is undoubtedly the best Punch Needle designer out there... her stuff has such great color sense, none of it is too 'busy' or 'sloppy.' She uses good old fashioned DMC flosses in her designs -- so yours WILL turn out looking as good as the original, (you can actually find the thread at a shop!) and her designs all come clearly pre-stamped on HUGE pieces of antiqued Weaver's cloth. (Huge means like a 14 x 16 piece... so you can get it into a nice large hoop or stand.) Of all our shop models... hers are the ones that always draw the comments and inquiries!

Teresa Kogut is a new addition to our Punch Needle Department! Her designs have such personality... you can just 'hear' what all the characters are saying in her pieces! Be sure to check out the rest!

St. Noel
from With Thy Needle & Thread

This is one of a charming collection of primitive designs that have a bit of elegance in them, to me! All in the neighborhood of the 4 to 5-inch finished size, each pattern is offered already stamped onto the weavers cloth. Pretty, soft and dusty colors, they are miniature works of punched art!

October's Grand Prize from Country Threads -- click for more

New Punchneedle Designs from Country Threads
A crisp, fresh, exciting set of Punch Needle designs... I love these because they look primitive, but contemporary at the same time! Great angles, great design prospectives... October's Grand Prize and Stretch are both vertical designs but you're teased into wanting to turn them the 'right direction!'

All are offered with the design stamped onto the weaver's cloth... take a peek at these!

Heart to Hand
One of my absolute FAVORITE Punch Needle designers, this collection of 10 designs just enchants me! Soft country-inspired denims, pastels, and dusky primitives, each is punched using Weeks and Gentle Art overdyeds, and several feature hand-dyed wools as backgrounds to the base fabric. Check out the miniature ornament pattern, and the little penny rugs! You can punch the rug 'flaps' or make them out of wool... whichever... all of these have such a wonderful, gentle, peaceful and elegant feel! All are offered as the pattern stamped onto Weavers Cloth, and several include some of the wool applique patterns, as well!

Stone & Thread House on a HillHouse on a Hill from Stone & Thread
Rich and deep in color, Stone & Thread offers punchneedle patterns that are simply charming! Great finishing ideas - especially with the ornaments -- each packet contains the pre-stamped punch needle outlines, color instruction, and even some coffee or tea dying instructions to give your finished piece a little extra in the 'distressed' area! (Did you know that you can 'paint' your piece, line a cookie sheet with foil, and BAKE your punchwork???! )

Stone & Thread is the manufacturer of their own line of stoneware buttons. Two of the ornament packages contain these fun buttons... so take a peek! A division of De Cuyper Trading Company... I am excited to tell you that Stone & Thread is one of our local Tulsa designers... and I'm thrilled that she's in my own 'back yard!'

Winter Chill from Cottonwood Creations -- click to see a larger viewWinter Chill from Cottonwood Creations
Such a delightfully frosty little guy, shivering in the blowing winter wind... you can just see the swirling snow... brrrr! New from Cottonwood Creations, Winter Chill is one of five designs for Punch Needle that captured my eye at a recent Market.

Offered as the pattern stamped onto white weaver's cloth, this little guy sports two red star buttons on his tummy -- instead of boring 'ole charcoal! Darling, he finishes approx 3-3/4 x 4... and is punched using a three-strand needle. Check out the rest of Cottonwood Creations, too!

Peppermint Snowman from Artful Offerings - click to see more Juggling the Holidays from Artful Offerings - click to see more Juggling the Holidays and Peppermint Snowman from Artful Offerings
Punch a colorful pair of winter snowmen... I don't know which of these I like better... so I'd opt for both! Offered as line drawings, you'll need to transfer them onto your weavers cloth to punch. Flosses are good 'ole DMC, making these slightly more affordable to punch than lots of other designs, and each is embellished with a few Just Another Button Company clay pieces.

Very bright and cheerful, Juggling finishes approx 4 x 5, while Peppermint punches approx 4 x 4. So Cute!

Oh No! More Snow! from Artful Offerings - click for moreOh No! More Snow! from Artful Offerings
I am dedicating this piece to all of you in New York State this Winter!!! You guys must be SO SICK of white -- only thing worse is how dirty snow gets when it melts! Anyway this darling little punch needle piece by Artful Offerings features that dreaded word SNOW in little square clay buttons. (New from Just Another Button Company!) Offered as the pattern that you'll transfer onto Weaver's cloth, this is punched with a three-strand needle in DMC and overdyed flosses.

We've included the letter buttons for you, as they are 'imbedded' in the punching -- not on top of the loops -- so they are an integral part of the design. Pretty colors, the background is 503, I don't think this little guy looks any happier about his impending snow than all of you in New York! Punches approx 3-3/4 x 5-3/4... so cute!

Reets' Rags To Stitches
Three darling Punch Needle designs by a company new to us... I love them all! Designer Rita -- is the Reets', and she has such a creative flair! Each design is offered as the line drawing already printed on Weaver's cloth (also includes the drawing on paper that you can re-use over and over again), and calls for Weeks, Gentle Art and DMC flosses.
Star Santa measures approx 4 x 4. His pattern includes the template and finishing instructions for the star pillow! Punched in cool, frosty greens (Shutter Green and Baby Spinach) and Cranberry reds... I think my favorite part of him is his 'deer-in-the-headlight' eyes!
'Hearts & Flowers' finishes approx 3 x 5-1/2, and is punched in luscious Sugarplum and Hyacinth overdyeds, with a Buttermilk background and Chamomile scallops. So sophisticated and cheerful!
Next, comes 'Punky.' He's dressed for Trick or Treat... and his pattern includes finishing instructions for his woolen hanging. Punky finishes approx 3-1/2 inches square. I fell in love with these three patterns when I found them!

Snowmen Star
from Bits & Pieces by Joan

A darling Punch Needle design by Bits & Pieces by Joan... this is a clever way to group snowmen... who knew?! Finishing approx 5 x 5, the design is stamped onto the ground weavers cloth. Just darn cute, it can be punched in either Weeks, Gentle Art or DMC flosses. We're getting so many patterns now that are finished using Weeks hand-dyed wools as the 'mats' or backgrounds... you could frame this, make a cube stand-up, or even a little star-shaped rug! Very cute!

Penny Snowman from Little Stitches
Isn't he cute?! 3-3/4 Inches in diameter, your little snowman is a delightful, miniature version of a felt penny rug! A bit of a challenge to finish... try cutting him out, and stitching onto a piece of wool??? Offered as the pattern stamped onto the weavers cloth.

Sweetheart Bunny
from The Workbasket

One of my personal favorite new Punch Needle designs... this is a charming rabbit tucked beneath a carrot of monumental personality!!! Measuring approx 4 x 4-1/2 inches... he's punched with Weeks overdyes. Background is Mulberry, Bunny is Angel Hair, and that fabulous carrot features Terra Cotta. The colors are bold and the design just moves with charm and grace. The framer has mounted it onto a piece of Weeks hand-dyed wool, and check out that distressed frame! (Get your framer busy on this one!) Very Country French to me, very classy! Offered as the design stamped onto the weavers cloth...a definite!

After punching with them, I can really recommend them easily, and with lots of excitement! Aluminum shafts, each needle size is color coded, so you can tell your needles apart with just a glance. The beveled edge that seems to be so hard to keep track of is accented by a shaved-out area on the needle shaft -- a permanent guide to determine where the bevel is!

The needles all come with pre-cut gauges that are all uniform in size to each other, and the handles of the needles are thicker than we're used to, a little longer, and SO much easier to hold! Next, they are longer -- that's always a help. Finally, they feature a beaded decoration on the end you hold, so they're really pretty, too! Each is a bit different... and that's kind of fun, too! WHY did it take this long to design a threader that you could actually see, use and keep track of??? Who knows... just Get One! Take-Along Punch Needle Frame -- click to see moreThe Take-Along Punch Needle Frame
WOW... this is JUST THE COOLEST THING!!!!!
By Gail -- The Ichokologkhy (check that spelling!) Needle Lady... you will love these new frames for Punch Needle Embroidery! Weighing approx 10 ounces... your smoothly finished wooden 4 1/2 x 4 1/2, 5 x 7 or 8 x 9-ish (inside opening measurements) frame features the metal 'doggy-brush' metal roving on all four sides that gently, but in no uncertain terms, perfectly controls tension of your punch needle fabric! These very light-weight and portable frames are absolutely wonderful!

Notice the round magnet on the corner to perch the stray threader or needle for a minute? Notice, too, how the dangerously-sharp metal teeth DO NOT curve over the edge of the frame? (This saves damage to 'your person' and personal belongings!!!) Close-upThese miniature metal teeth grip your weaver's cloth with little or no effort on your part to fight with getting it into a hoop properly. It is so easy to place and re-place your needlework on this... you simply lay it on there... or lift it off to re-position.

The frame is approx 3/4 of an inch deep, so if you just want to lay it on the table to punch... your needle won't hit your knee underneath, or the table!!!

Anyway, I was so excited to see this new product while we were at the Stitching Festival in Nashville this past summer... I knew it'd be wonderful. Please get a tube sock or headband to store over the metal tooth roving while not in use... you don't want to crush or bend those teeth... or scratch yourself and bleed all over everything! (and DO NOT use as a doggy brush... even though your precious baby would probably sit at your feet for an hour like mine would!)

The Round-About Punch Needle Frame
from K's Creations

Well, this is quite the nifty stitching aide!!! It has several nice features that you're going to really enjoy. There are four carding strips on the frame sides (remind me of dog and cat brushes!) that hold the fabric -- any fabric -- as drum tight as you like. The base expands so if you purchase a larger top piece, the punching can be centered over the base, the working area tilts, and the whole frame can rotate as well, so that if you're stitching something round, or need to change directions, you can rotate the frame and keep your same lap, hand and needle positions! The base is large enough to sit in your lap or on a table... and the knobs are large and easy to grab onto and turn.

To attach the punching fabric, simply lay it over the carding strips... you'll figure out right away how to tighten it... it doesn't require heavy wrist twisting on your part, or a strong finger pinch grip, or lots of upper body strength to pull it tight. You won't have to be a body-builder to get your work on here... no fighting... no bent hoops! Since it's so sturdy, weighing approx 1-1/2 pounds, you can punch away, without having to hold the hoop, and it won't 'jiggle' on you! Really, really nice to use! Offered in an unstained light wood, the base measures approx 7 x 15, the working area is approx 6 x 6, which can be rotated, tilted and lifted every which way!

The Morgan Lap Stand
The Morgan Lap Stand -- click for more
What a cool tool for us Punchers!!! Brand new to the Needle Punch crowd, this is a double set of extra-heavy duty hoops that fit together with little legs... to offer a raised area for you to punch in. Designed to sit in your lap... put your project in the 7-inch hoop, or turn it over and use the 10-inch hoop. Then, if you want, stretch a piece of fabric in the hoop not being used -- the one on your lap -- and it becomes your little tray-table for your materials and tools!

Excellent stability, super heavy-duty, there is a hidden notch in the hoops that 'lock' the fabric in place perfectly. The larger sized hoops give you the flexibility to punch larger projects, as well! And... each hoop can be used alone, if you don't want the double feature!

Offered in two sized combos. No more stabbing your knee (!) with the punchneedles, or cramping your hand holding a flimsy hoop!

UPDATE: The Morgan Hoop Company has two new size combinations! Designed to give you many more options with hoop sizes, each is still the idea of two hoops attaching together with little legs in between to make a lap frame.

Now... you can get THREE different sizes of hoops to mix and match your lap frames! These hoops are top-notch in strength, durability, and holding-tight power. Use them individually or make the frame size you wish! (Or purchase the various hoops separately below... you just don't get the little legs.)

Individual Morgan Hoops!
The same great quality as the hoops in the Morgan Stands... these are the individual hoops! Super-extra-sturdy, although they aren't pretty like our softer, brightly colored hoops... these are far superior for tension, and MUCH more substantial in feel. These won't 'bend' if your fabric is super tight...(they kind of feel like you could run over them with your car, and not crush them!!!!! but... I'm not trying it!) More money... more Hoop for the money!
